Unauthorised withdrawn of MP LAD fund in Mangaldai HPC: BDO filed FIR

Believe it or not, law and order situation in Assam has deteriorated so much that anybody could dare draw government funds at ease. Such an incident has come to light when Hemanta Kumar Pegu, ACS, Senior BDO, Kalaigaon Dev.Block filed an FIR at Kharupetia police station alleging that one Baraka Marandi of the village Begacum, Syamtila had withdrawn the MPLAD amount of rupees twenty five thousand posing as Prakash Chouhan. The matter has created sensation in both Darrang and Udalguri district.

According to available information, Narayan Barkataki, former BJP MP of Mangaldai HPC had sanctioned an amount of Rs.50,000 under his LAD fund for the construction of a Hume pipe at Borkhat near Syamtila. He also formed a construction committee with Prakash Chouhan as president and BDO Kalaigaon as Member Secretary. Accordingly Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri by letter No.UDP/MPLAD (HP) 145/2007-08 Dated 24-12-2008 released first installment amount of Rs.25,000 (cheque No. 1343977).The DC also directed both the president and member secretary of the construction committee for proper utilization of the amount. The cheque was deposited at the Kharupetia branch of the Assam Gramin Vikash Bank

The matter had come to light only when people of the locality complained to the BDO, Kalaigaon about non completion of the work. When investigated the matter Senior BDO,Kalaigaon found that the money was not withdrawn by Prakash Chouhan. Further investigation revealed that one imposter Baraka Marandi posing as Prakash Chouhan withdrew the amount. When contacted ,BDO Hemanta Pegu told this scribe that he was misguided by the imposter. He also told that FIR had been lodged against the culprits and the matter had been reported to the DC ,SP of Udalguri / Darrang districts. Ramen Deka sitting BJP MP from Mangaldai HPC had also been informed, he said.

People urged the government to investigate the matter thoroughly as more such cases might come out ,if investigate properly.
