Shortage of doctors, medicines hit Raha Rantholi 30-bed hospital
Though the Health Minister of Assam is taking various steps to improve the health services of the rural area , health centres in rural areas are still unable to provide better services to the common people due to the unavailability of required number of doctors , medicines, nurses etc.
The 30-bed year old Raha Ranthali Hospital is meant to cater to the health needs of more than 50 villages . But not to speak of other facitilities ,the health centre is running without a residential health and medical officer ( MHO ). Instead of three doctors needed by a large number of patients everyday , there is only one Doctor found available while investigated.
During investigation it has come to light that the Hospital employees have been neglecting their duties , due to which the patients are being deprived from availing proper treatment and medicines. Besides , the local people allege this correspondent that the Hospital staffs always refuse to give the medicines prescribed by the doctors to the patients and suggest them to buy the same from the outside. They further allege that the same employees sale the Govt. supplied medicines meant for the Hospital patients , outside and distribute among their relatives. The local people have therefore demanded the health authority concerned to look into the matter and ameliorate their perennial plight. They have also demanded the authority to place a resident doctor immediately so that they need not wait for the arrival of the doctors from the district head.

In order to provide better customer care services and streamline functioning, the State Bank of India (SBI) Raha branch launched Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) project with focus on customer convenience on July 7 , Saturday at its Raha branch . The residents of Raha town are fed up with the sub-standard construction works of drains in the Raha bazaar road. The drains which had been a long time demand of the residents of the town, are being constructed under Public Works Department (PWD) at a cost of Rs. 70 lacks.According to the residents, the drain will collapse within a short period of time because it amply shows the bad quality of work allegedly done by the contractors. “ The contractors are using sub-standard materials and the concerned engineers of PWD department are turning blind eye towards the matter and totally fail to check the illegal practice”, the residents said to this correspondent.The residents further...

The Raha unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Raha ASEB office in protest against the frequent load shedding at Raha Town and its neighbouring areas at around 10 a.m.
Criticizing the irregular supply of power by ASEB, at Raha and its neighbouring areas Mridul Hazarika said, “ The residents of Raha are perennially suffering a lot due to erratic power supply by ASEB.There is no fixed time for load shedding here as a result of which Students, business community, industrial units, among others are suffering a lot due to the erratic power supply.”

More than 200 people led by All Tiwa Students’ Union and All Assam Tribal Sangha , Raha unit,enraged at the partial looks of Raha Town Committee towards their several civic problems mainly in Tiwa areas under Raha Town today staged a mass demonstration before the Raha Circle Office and the Town committee’s office as well. The Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union ( AASU ) today took out a rally at Raha on Thursday, in protest against the frequent power cut at Raha and its neighbouring areas. The rally started from PWD Inspection Bunglow and went through the Raha bazar road.
