Residential multi-skill and leadesrhip programme inaugurated by Chief Minister

A three week long residential multi skill and leadership development programme was launched by Chief Minister of Assam Sri Tarun Gogoi at a brief and solemn function held at the State Museum Auditorium on 10th July, 2009 at 11 am. The programme is being organized jointly by the newly established IGNOU Institute of Vocational Education and Training , Shillong , in collaboration with North East Girl Students Association (NEGSA) , North East Development Finance Corporation Limited(NEDFI) and sponsored by Oil India Limited. Altogether 90 participants from various parts of the NE region are participating in the event , who have been provided to and fro traveling expense and free accommodation and fooding by the organizing committee. About 20 participants are drawn from families from Kokrajhar, Bagsa, Nalbari, Barpeta etc that have become the victim of terrorist violence The main objective of the programme is to build up a dedicated and empowered group of trained young women who can play a proactive role in the nation building process. During the programme , the participants are being trained in Yoga and meditation, Art of Public Speaking, Communication Skill, Physical Fitness , Self Defence, Legal Awareness, RTI Act, Entrepreneurship Awareness, Self Confidence, Leadership Training, Time Management,. Interview skill, Disaster Management and First Aid training, Raising Emotional Intelligence etc.


Miss Munmi Dutta, President, NEGSA , delivered the welcome address . Sri Tarun Gogoi in his inaugural speech appreciated the effort taken up by IGNOU and NEGSA and assured all possible help from the State Government. He stated that the Govt shall come forward to help in setting up a full fledged Vocational Training Centre for providing round the year training programmes, Referreing to the National Skill development Mission, he said that there are many talented women in the region who can establish themselves to be successful entrepreneurs by receiving proper guidance and assistance.


The inaugural programme was also addressed by Padmashree Natwar Thakkar, Mr Rekibuddin Ahmed, Member Secretary, State Level Advisory Board for welfare of Youth and Students, Mr Akshoy Sharma, general Manager( Planning) , NEDFI, Mrs Bina Gupta, Vice Principal, Hansdique Girls’ College., Mr Khalilur Rahman, Project Co-ordinator of Aswas for Barpeta District. and Dr Gagan Chandra Baruah, Former Principal, Handique Girls’ College.


Dr Vardhini Bhattacharyya, Regional Director, IGNOU , Guwahati Regional centre , offered the Vote of thanks. She mentioned about the various initiatives that has been taken up by the Guwahati Regional Centre for the benefit of the youth of the region which includes Screen Printing training, Mobile Phone Repairing, etc All these programmes are conducted free of cost and a large number of youths and women have benefited from it.

The programme is unique, specially the effort taken to help the girls from terrorist affected families. Congratulations to IGNOU, NEGSA , NEDFI , OIL and other collaborators.

It is really heartening to know that IGNOU and OIL are coming forward to practically help the women of the region. Other Corporate sectors should also adopt agenda to help and train the vast pool of young women who can be made highly skilled to compete at the National as well as International level. Tourism development is one sector which have great potentiality and needs to be focussed.

Empowering and training the young girls is the need of the hour. Remarkable transformations in the society can be achieved through the development of the girl and young women. Indeed a very good effor, which needs to be replicated at all the states of NE region.

Akhil Gogoi released on bail

RTI activist Akhil Gogoi on Thursday a day after he was granted bail by the Gauhati High court. Gogoi left the GMCH premises where he was undergoing treatnent since he was remanded to judicial custody. Gogoi was escorted to his home by his fans who shouted anti-govt slogans in the evening. Talking to reporters before leaving the GMCH premises, a visibly upbeat said he and the peasant body would never tone down the voice of protest against big dams and corruption. He said his arrest was a conspiracy to gag the voice of protest. He further said the big ships ferrying the NHPC-owned turbines would not be allowed to proceed.

RTI activist Akhil Gogoi said that his organization will keep fighting for the poor people. Talking to reporters immediately after procuring bail on Wednesday evening, he said KMSS will always raise the voice of protest against the injustice by the ruling clique. Gogoi who was remanded to judicial custody a week ago was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, several parties, organisations have hailed the Gauhati High court judgment saying it would boost the morale of the peasants who have been fighting for landrights.

Akhil granted bail

Much to the respite of KMSS, the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Akhil Gogoi in Dispur violence case on June 22. Gogoi was granted bail when a special bench of Justice Anima Hazarika was hearing a bail petition moved last week.

Health camp at Shillong

Shree Marwari Panchayat, Shillong alongwith Dorbar Dong Demseiniong, Shillong will be organising a free medical camp of Osteoporosis, Neuropathy, Orthopedics, ENT, General Medicine, Random Blood Sugar Testing, Maleria Test, Uric Acid Test and Vaccination. All these testing will be conducted with the help of modern computerised machines at Dorbar Dong Demseiniong, Dorbar cum Community hall, Near NEEPCO, Shillong on July 9, 2011 from 9 am to 3 pm. Patients are requested to register their name at Dorbar Dong Demseiniong on July 6th, 7th and 8th, 2011 between 6 pm to 8 pm. For vaccination patients are to bring along their immunization card.

Body condemns inclusion of Assamese in RMSA list in Manipur

Integrated Farmers Association (IFA) today denounced the inclusion of a non-Manipuri in the Rashtriya Madhyamik Abhiyan eligible list of Manipur Education Department. The association said in a statement that Dr Taiyabur Rehman, an Assamese was found included in the recent RMSA eligible list of the state Education Department. The association further said that they cannot accept such policy of the state Government. It also asked whether we lack any appropriate candidate for RMSA here in Manipur. Summer Cultural Workshop at Parijat Academy

Summer Cultural Workshop is going on from July 1. The worskhop is organising by Greater Guwahati Karbi Students' Union in collaboration with Parijat Academy. More than 100 children took part in the Cultural workshop. Children are learning folk dance Bihu and Karbi dance. Encounter in Tinsukia: ULFA cadre killed

A hardcore ULFA militant was killed two others have been injured at an encounter with security forces in Tinsukia on Sunday. The incident took place at Kailashpur village under Pengeri police station which lasted for nearly 2 hours. Acting on a tip off, police and army jawans conducted an operation in the village where the heavy gunfight took place. Indira Goswami to be shifted to Guwahati

Jnyanpith award winning litterateur Dr India Goswami is gradually recovering. Dr Goswami is likely to be shifted to Guwahati within the next couple of days. Dr Goswami was airdashed to a Gurgaon-based hospital following severe cerebral damage a few months back. She suddenly fell ill at her residence in Guwahati and was immediately shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital on February 13. When her condition deteriorated she was flown in an air ambulance to New Delhi on February 19 and admitted to the Medanta Medicity where she slipped into coma. She was attended by Dr. Yatin Mehta, chairman of Medanta Institute of Critical Care and Anaesthesiology at The Medicity.
