Rabha boys rescued python near Bhergaon

Wildlife lovers have expressed satisfaction, when four Rabha youths of the remote village Bodora near Khagrabari under Bhergaon police out post rescued an eight feet six inches long python weighing nine kilos,at 11 am on July 6.The action has been regarded as a positive step towards conservation of floras and faunas of Assam.The four Rabha youths, namely-Karuna Rabha ,Dipen Rabha,Jayanta Rabha and Baikuntha Rabha,all of them members of a local NGO called “JAGILA AFAD” had seen the python climbing down the bamboos of the village. Fearing bad consequences to the reptile,the youths immediately decided to report the matter to police and civil administration for its safety. D.N.Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle (Tangla);B.K.Borah,Circle Inspector,Tangla; Kushal Deka, forest officer of Samrang Beat Office and other police and forest personals arrived at the site same day. According to Kushal Deka,I/C,Samrang Forest Office, the reptile was released in the Samrang section of Nonoi range forest under Khalingduar Reserve Forest. Wildlife activist Debanga Mahaliya, journalist Narayan Deka were also present on the occasion to thank four Rabha youths for their good work.

In another tragic incident an adult male wild elephant has been eletrocuted neat Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary in the night of July 8. According to information the elephant died on spot after it had come in to contact of loosely erected high voltage electric wires. Surprisingly most of all electric lines have been hanging from temporary bamboo poles causing threat to wild elephants as well as people. ASEB is totally inactive in tea garden and forest areas there by allowing tea garden management and common people to take own illegal connection at will.
