Public ground “Gandhi Bakari” inaugurated

Long pending demand for a public play ground has at last been fulfilled here at Kalaigaon with the inauguration of the “Gandhi Bakari” near circle office, Kalaigaon. Nonagenarian freedom fighter and social worker Pani Ram Das formally inaugurated it on April 25.It is worth mentioning that people of Kalaigaon had been facing the crisis of a public meeting place which could also be used for sports and cultural activities. Fortunately, D.N. Hazarika, the out going circle officer of Kalaigaon revenue circle had reserved the said polt of land measuring five bighas for public use and accordingly decided to name the plot as “Gandhi Bakari”, as a token of respect to the father of the nation. Inaugurating “Gandhi Bakari”,freedom fighter Pnai Ram Das thanked DN Hazarika for his noble plan. In his emotional speech the freedom fighter remembered days during their non violent struggle against British.He also expressed his regret that people had forgotten Gandhi and other great leaders of India who had sacrificed their lives for the people. He advised people to remember the teachings of Gandhi. Maheswar Baro, MLA, Kalaigaon also spoke a few words on the occasion.He assured people that necessary steps would be taken for the maintenance of the public ground named “Gandhi Bakari”. The inaugural ceremony was well attedended by social worker Kami Ram Saharia, Mouzadar Kamal Prasad Sarmah, ABSU leader Ram Shing Baro, Kamala Baro, Dhireswar Baro Narzi, journalist Rabindra Rabha and ABSU president Dimbeswar Baro.
