Gorkha students' community Unified: AANSU merged into AAGSU

The unconstitutionally breakaway faction of the All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU)-the apex Gorkha students' organisation of Assam AANSU in its abbreviated form All Assam Nepali Students' Union (AANSU) today merged into former unconditionally. It was a red letter day for the Gorkha students community of Assam at the Phanidhar Dutta Memorial Seminar Hall Gauhati University at 6 pm as the Special Joint AAGSU-AANSU unification Steering committee declared All Assam Nepali Students' Union (AANSU) merger into All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) unconditionally. AAGSU-AANSU Unification Declaration drafting committee team lead by Deepak Niroula on behalf of AANSU and Harkha Bahadur Chetri on behalf of AAGSU lead the AAGSU President Dil Bahadur Limboo and AANSU President Kishor Upadhyay to shake hands an exchange greetings. Then and there all present in the house in honour of the Unification and voice slogan AANSU-AAGSU ek ho! AAGSU Longlive, Gorkha Unity Long Live etc with all smiles on faces of each delegates in the house. Earlier Kishor Upadhyay President AANSU declared that AANSU unanimously and unconditionally merged into AAGSU as it dissolved now. All AANSU workers of all section are now the member of AAGSU. In his statement he held himself responsible for the division of Gorkha students' community in Assam and begged apology for his misdeed and further promised to work hand in hand together with AAGSU for the welfare of Gorkha community. He totally denied proposal of AANSU members as General Secretary AAGSU or any other portfolio saying that the modalities of unification nowhere mention this and declared dissolution of All Assam Nepali Students' Union (AANSU) Central committee, all existing District committee, all Regional committee , unit and grassroot as well. Thereafter one of the President of the Presidium presiding the State Students' Convention for Unification Shri Dil Bahadur Limboo President AAGSU declared unified gorkha students' community as All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) and appealed the house to be bound by the constitution and principles of AAGSU.

Soon after the unification declaration from the presidium one of the delegate and President of Odalguri dist. AANSU for and onbehalf of all AANSU delegates in the house unanimously declared acceptance of AANSU merger into AAGSU and declared that they are the delegate of AAGSU now and will follow and abide by the constitution and principles of AAGSU. He also declared their accepatnce of AAGSU President as their Prsident as Mr. Dil Bahadur Limboo was constitutionally elected AAGSU President but demanded AANSU President to be accommodated as General Secretary of unified AAGSU on demand of the house which the Special Joint AAGSU-AANSU unification Steering committee and AAGSU denied. Reacting sharply to denial, members and delegates of former AANSU raised voice and walked out of the house declaring end of AANSU and their students politics. As walkout began the house turned chaotic at the mean time the steering committee declared accommodation of former AANSU President as Advisor of AAGSU. The walk out delegates did not turned back so citing unconstitutional and unparliamentary activity by newly inducted AAGSU members AAGSU President declared the house being adjourned till the next extended executive meeting as the alloted time was over. A press meet has been called on 16th March Monday evening in office of the AAGSU at Nepali Mandir, Paltan Bazar to declare the unification. More details will be added on after the media conference.

This is a good move and this was long overdue. Time has come to fight for our constitutional rights in India. Our ancestors have served this country for long, but today we are all dubbed as foreigners. India must scrap 1950 Indo-Nepal treaty. True, there are some illegal migrants from Nepal, but they are far and few compared to the Bangladeshish. Bangladeshis have already gobbled up North Bengal which historically belongs to the Gorkhas.

Nalbari Balst: 2 injured

Three peope have been injured while a powerful blast rocked a vegetable market in Nalbari. The explosion took place at 6in the evening. The injure peopes have been rushed to the hospital. Centre sends instructions for NE states

The Union home ministry has sent a slew of instructions for the north eastern states to deal with any situation during the Republic Day celebrations in the region. These instructions ask the state governments to take extra precautionary measures in view of Republic Day boycott call by United Liberation Front of Asom and three others. Poaching poses serious threat to Kaziranga

Kaziranga National Park, one of the world’s heritage site of late, is buying a bad name - safe haven of poachers, who have killed 21 one horn rhinos within a period of 13 months. The abode of 1855 one horn rhinos, 86 leopards, 1431 wild buffalos,1246 elephants, several thousand deer, and over 500 species of colourful birds is facing a serious threat of extinction if this continues. R-Day securtity

With less than 24 hours left for the Republic Day, security has been beefed up across the state to ensure peace and normalcy during the day. Besides intensifying patrolling on the streets, police and para military troops have been deployed at the vital bridges, railway stations along with oil and gas installations apprehending militant strikes. The Army jawans are monitoring the situation with helicopters in the city and its adjoining areas. Mean while, the Kokrajhar police have recovered a black polythithene bag which suspected to have contained some explosive materials in front of the Loknath Brahma Hospital at around 5-50 in the morning. The bag has been sent to the Army for confirmation.

Explosive materials recovered in Bongaigaon (updated)

The Bongaigaon police have recovered some explosive materials inside a bag from a bus which was on its way to Bongaigaon from Barpeta in the morning.According to information, the bag was recovered from the bus bearing No AMB 2081 during a routine check at the Chapaguri Road at around 10-35 in the morning on Friday. The bag was taken away to a safer place. Later police said the bag contained some detonators, 200 gelatin sticks, some clothes and medicines. Darrang panchayat polling peaceful

Despite drizzling in January Coldwave, around seventy five per cent voters exercised their franchise in the fourth and final phase of panchayat polling in Darrang district on Thursday. The polling was by and large [eaceful.Hundreds of voters were seen making long queue in front of the polling booths till the end of the voting. NABARD plans Rs 2224.63 crore investment in 2008-09 in Assam

NABARD has planned to invest a total Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-2009 in Assam. Addressing a seminar held on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, the banks’s chief general manager C K Gopalakrishna said of this amount, the potential assessed for agriculture is Rs 886.38 crore , Rs 441.05 crore for industries while Rs 897.19 crore is being kept for services. He said in view of the thrust on agriculture and food processing industries, a credit potential of Rs 35.23 crore has been estimated for the year. Noted economist Dr Jayanta Madhab inaugurated the seminar which was attended by several senior bank officials.

One killed on Haflong

The Black Widow has killed one Amri Rupsi in Haflong on Thursday morning alleging him to be a police informer. According to information, the publicity secretary of the outfit Phaisang Dimasa came to Rupsi at around 7 in the morning and took him away to the street and shot dead from a close range saying him to be a police informer. Assam panchayat polls underway in Darrang

Amid tight security, Assam is going to the fourth and final phase of the panchayat elections in Darrang district from in the morning on Thursday. The polling is going on at 728 voting centers in the district. As many as 4,50,000 voters are voting for 3659 candidates. The voting will end at 4.00 pm. Around 70 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise in the first phase of the polls on December 31, while around 72 per cent cast their votes in the second phase on January 4. An estimated 74 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the third phase of polling on January 9.

38 ULFA cadres surrender in Tamulpur

Thirty-eight ULFA cadres, including a woman cadre, laid down their arms before the army in Tamulpur in Baksa district on Thursday morning. The group was by Nayan Kakoti who surrendered before the GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen B S Jamwal at 21 Mountain Brigade Headquarters of Red Horn Division. They further submitted a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 27 pistols, 18 grenades, 22 detonators, 30 kgs of explosives and 150 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Jamwal said the army was trying to bring back misguided youths to the mainstream adding that insurgency cannot bring any solution.
