Senior Congress leader and former industry minister Dr Anandaram Baruah died as his car rammed into a stranded truck in Guwahati last night.
According to information, the incident took place at Christianbasti at around 1-30 AM when he was on his way towards Ganeshguri. The truck was remaining stranded after it developed technical snag in the middle of the road. The former MLA of Roha died on the spot while the four others left seriously injured him have been rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
The driver and his assistants managed to flee from the spot minutes after the incident. Investigation is on.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom is descending in his home constituency. Several meetings are being convened to condole his death.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi deeply mourned Dr Baruah's death saying it his personal loss. Similar condolence messages are pouring in some other districts.
