An eye-check up camp for the media persons in Guwahati Press Club has made shocking revelation that most of the participants were advised for further course of treatment. Organized with the support from Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya on October 29 in the press club premises, the health camp was an eye-opening experience for the scribes, who had not used spectacles earlier (and now they are being advised to do so). A group of physicians from the Nethralaya hospital including Dr Jiten Bhattacharya, Dr Debojit Deka with Niranjan Bezbaruah, Dibyajyoti Das, Mrinal Medhi attended the camp, where nearly 100 media persons participated.
The Journalists’ Forum, Assam (JFA) on Tuesday hailed the Gauhati High Court decision to admit a revision petition on the Parag Kumar Das murder case as a glimmer of hope for those who still believe in the rule of law and expect a logical end to the lingering case. Thousands of AGP leaders and workers gathered in Dispur on Monday demanding government action to bring down the price level. NDFB's pro truce faction secretary S Sangjarang was seriously injured when two suspected cadres of the breakaway faction attacked him in Udalguri on Wednesday. According to information, the incident took place in Udalguri at around 10 in the morning when Sangjarang was riding on a motorcycle. Two motorcycle born youths suspected to be the cadres of NDFB's third battalion started sprayed several rounds of bullets on him where he fell injured. The miscreants left the spot immediately after the incident. Later the pro truce NDFB leader was rushed to Nemcare Hospital for treatment. Police investigation is in progress.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit Asam soon.
