Assam governor JB Patnaik says that his government has done a lot to ensure development all on fronts. Opening the Assam assembly session on Tuesday Patnaik claimed that peace is back to the state to boost the process of development. But the opposition parties didnot allow the governor to continue his speech. With festoons a section of AGP and BJP members raised to register protest. They said the government has done only corruption and nothing else. This has forced Patnaik to cut short his speech. Later on Tuesday chief minister Tarun Gogoi who is holding the finance portfolio will table vote on account. Several bills would be moved in this session to be concluded on February 8.
CPIM general secretary Prakash Karat says that his party would raise the multi crore scam in NC Hills of Assam in parliament. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Karat said siphonning off money meant for poor people is a grave and an unpardonable crime and that the guilty persons deserve punishment. Karat along with top party leaders held a brainstorming meet to formulate strategy for the upcoming assembly polls in Assam.

National Federation of Newspapers Employees has extended moral support to the agitating journalists of Manipur, who have been demanding an unconditional release of an editor of a local daily. The media persons of the State under the banner of All Manipur Working Journalists Union pushed the authority for the release of Ahongsangbam Mobi Singh, editor of Sanaleibak, who was arrested by the police on December 27 for an alleged link with the militants.
