Shameful arrest: Assam education minister Ripun Bora was arrested by CBI in Delhi on June 3 while he was trying to bribe one of its officials who was probing into the sensational Danial Topno murder case.

The Second Coming: The breakaway group of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) along with PLP united to bolster the regional politics. Both the AGP factions reunited on October 4 at the regional party’s general convention at Golaghat.

Farewell to arms: The cadres of A and C companies of ULFA’s crack unit ie 28th battalion announced an unilateral ceasefire on June 24 citing their aim at ensuring talk between ULFA and government.

String of clash: At least 55 people were killed more than two lakh people rendered homeless at the height of a communal riot that rocked Udalguri and Darrang districts of lower Assam during the first week of October.

First time first chance: Kalpana Chaudhury of Assam wowed the Asian countries striking gold at the first ever Asian Women Boxing Championship in Guwahati kickstarted on September 24.

Shocking blast: At least 84 people were killed more than 200 have been injured when a series of blast rocked Guwahati, Bongaigaon, Barpeta Road and Kokrajhar.

Violence atop the hills: At least 35 people were killed by DHD(J) outfit in a string of attack in North Cachar hills district in the first week of June.

Pride of Assam: Sahitya Akedemy Award to Dr Rita Chaudhury and Vidyasagar Narzary in the third week of December.

Acknowledgment: Dada saheb phalke awardee Dr Bhupen Hazarika awarded the firs ever Assam Ratna award by the Assam government.

End of an era: Noted singer and cultural icon Dilip Sarma passed away in the first week of October.

Elephant rescused in Guwahati at a time when elephants are facing probelms due to ignorance

Guwahati : An elephant aged about 12 to 15 days has been rescued by the Assam State Zoo Authority from the Rani Reserve Forest today and kept at the Zoo premises, Guwahati on 22-08-07.According to Zoo officials the rescued elephant had deviated from his mother and has been found alone in the Rani Reserve Forest area. Water poisoning in Guwahati at Uzanbazar, 2 dead

Guwahati : Uzanbazar the heart of Guwahati, the unofficial capital of Northeast and the year is 2007 in India, one of the fastest growing economies of the world and you still have reports of deaths due to water poisoning.2 people died and 14 are serious due to water poisoning in the Padum Pukhuri area of Uzanbazar area. Attack on Hindi-speaking teacher's house

Guwahati: The string of attacks on Hindi-speaking people refuse to die down as some miscreants hurled a grenade at the home of a Hindi speaking family at Hojai on Wednesday wee hours.According to information, some unidentified miscreants lobbed a grenade into the compound of school teacher Ranjit Prasad Gupta’s residence at Natun Bazar, Pukhuripur at Hojai town. No one was there in the in the backyard where the grenade burst; only a septic tank was damaged under the impact of the blast.Top ranked police officials reached the spot on Wednesday morning and started investigation.Police have rounded up two people, including a surrendered ULFA cadre for investigation.

Soldier’s dead body brought home after 40 years, cremated

Sivasagar : The frozen dead body of an Assamese soldier, who was killed in a plane crash long back in 1968, has been handed over to his family at Deodhai village in Sivsagar district on Tuesday. His body was recovered from Chandrabhaga peak in Himachal Pradesh on August 2 by an army troops. Army brought Phukan’s body, wrapped in the Indian flag, to his native village which was cremated with full military honors. Phukan is survived by his three brothers Tuben, Durganath and Jiten and their families. Al Qaida activits captured in Manipur border

Imphal : There was always a rumour. Finally there is proof that the Al Qaida activists are operating in Northeast India.Assam Rifles team engaged in counter insurgency team captured 15 insurgents in the border of Myanmar near Moreh Town in Manipur.The captured militants admitted to having links with the Al Qaida and propogating and collecting funds on its behalf. The 24th batallion of Assam Rifles was involved in this significant operation and it is believed that this would lead them to other operations of the outfit in Northeast India.
