Shameful arrest: Assam education minister Ripun Bora was arrested by CBI in Delhi on June 3 while he was trying to bribe one of its officials who was probing into the sensational Danial Topno murder case.

The Second Coming: The breakaway group of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) along with PLP united to bolster the regional politics. Both the AGP factions reunited on October 4 at the regional party’s general convention at Golaghat.

Farewell to arms: The cadres of A and C companies of ULFA’s crack unit ie 28th battalion announced an unilateral ceasefire on June 24 citing their aim at ensuring talk between ULFA and government.

String of clash: At least 55 people were killed more than two lakh people rendered homeless at the height of a communal riot that rocked Udalguri and Darrang districts of lower Assam during the first week of October.

The Assam Government has tabled on the floor of the House the report on the Beltola Clash that rocked the state on November 24 which left 2 people dead .and several others injured. The report contains some uncharitable remarks against the Kamrup district administrations and police for failing to bring the law and order situation under control. An Adivasi girl was also stripped off during the incident in Beltola area in the city. A shaken government set up the Justice Manisana panel to probe into it who filed the report before the government two months back. Members of All Assam Student Union (AASU) seized the alleged low quality furniture supplied during the year 2007 by the Education Department to one of its model schools at Bangsor Higher Secondary School under Jalukbari Constituency on 01-04-08. It is mentionable that, during the year 2007 Education Department supplied furniture worth around Rs.3,80,000 to each Model Schools of Assam aiming for the improvement of the educational infrastructure of the state.
