Shameful arrest: Assam education minister Ripun Bora was arrested by CBI in Delhi on June 3 while he was trying to bribe one of its officials who was probing into the sensational Danial Topno murder case.

The Second Coming: The breakaway group of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) along with PLP united to bolster the regional politics. Both the AGP factions reunited on October 4 at the regional party’s general convention at Golaghat.

Farewell to arms: The cadres of A and C companies of ULFA’s crack unit ie 28th battalion announced an unilateral ceasefire on June 24 citing their aim at ensuring talk between ULFA and government.

Acknowledgment: Dada saheb phalke awardee Dr Bhupen Hazarika awarded the firs ever Assam Ratna award by the Assam government.

End of an era: Noted singer and cultural icon Dilip Sarma passed away in the first week of October.

The main Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is finalising a pre poll pact with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Police excess: Morigaon CPI leader Manoj Deka died at GNRC

Morigaon CPI leader Manoj Deka who was struggling with death at the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre died on Friday morning. SC Mathur sworn as new Assam Governor

Veteran Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur was sworn in as Assam Governor in Guwahati on Thursday at a function held at Rabindra Bhavan. He was administered oath of office and secrecy by acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia. The former chief minister of Rajasthan was also member of the 10th Lok Sabha. The 82 year old Mathur is the 9th Governor of Assam since the reorganisation of the Northeast in 1972. The last politician-governor that Assam had was Lok Nath Mishra, who served the state from 1991 to 1997.
