Bodo Sahitya Sabha conference gathers huge throng

The 65th annual conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BkSS) entered its second day on Saturday at Thengpakri Fwthar, Borlaogaon, near Bijni in Chirang district.

The conference witnessed multicultural showcases representing different communities across the state. More than 4,000 delegates and participants attended the event from various district committees, the state committee, and neighbouring countries, including Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

The exhibition and book fair of the conference drew a huge throng of visitors as well as members of the public from various areas. In particular, cultural demonstrations representing different communities attracted Sahitya-loving people to the conference.

As part of the second-day programme, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surath Narzary hoisted the Sabha flag, followed by floral tributes to martyrs, in the presence of a large gathering. Vice-presidents of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Sitaram Basumatary and Prasanta Boro, also paid floral tributes to the martyrs on the occasion.

Dr Surath Narzary, president of the Sabha, received a guard of honour presented by student contingents during the flag-hoisting ceremony.

A book release ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Dr Surath Narzary. As many as 90 books, written and published by different publications and individuals, were released at the event, apart from The Bodo, the mouthpiece of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

A felicitation programme was also carried out to honour award-winning personalities and successful students, including Sahitya Akademi awardees and Padma Shri awardees from the Bodo community. An award presentation ceremony for several awards, including the Rangchar and Someswari awards, was organised for writers and authors contributing their literary works towards the uplift of Bodo literature.

During the event, Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma and Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary were among the prominent attendees.

Tomorrow, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the open session of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surath Narzary said the conference discussed at length the uplift and development of the Bodo language, education, and community well-being. He stated that the delegate session emphasized promoting further language development within the community so that mother-tongue education could be explored on a wider scale. He informed that the delegate session witnessed participation by several thousand delegates from across the state.

MLA Mevani produced in court in Kokrajhar

Amid a strict security vigil, arrested Gujrat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was brought to Kokrajhar police station and later produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court. Ganja smuggler sustained bullet injuies

KOKRAJHAR: A Ganja smuggler was shot at by police in the Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar district late Wednesday night. The incident happened  in Kokrajhar in Bishmuri. KOKRAJHAR: The police nabbed three people with 91 Kgs of Ganja on Karigaon national highway in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.. The arrested persons were identified as Hasanur Rahman, Mithun Miya of Mankachar and Mukesh Kumar of Bihar. Hagrama Mohilary, BPF chief, released on bail

BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was granted bail on Saturday and released against case CR 34/2020, accused of section 120-B/500 IPC from CJM court in Kokrajhar. Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party of Luwahati, filed a complaint against  Mohilary, the former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, at the court of CJM Kokrajhar for making derogatory remarks about him in February 2020. KOKRAJHAR: Two people were killed on the spot in a late-night road accident in Balajan Pakriguri under Kokrajhar police station.
