In a bid to correctly identify the Moidam of Swargadew Chaolung Sukapha, the father of the Assamese nation and the architect of greater Assam, the Tai Ahom Development Counsil under the aegis of the Assam government, organized a Dam-Phi Puja at the Langkurri Deosal premises of Sivasagar district, today.
On the occasion, the MLA of Sunari constituency, Dharmeswar Konwar, laid the foundation stone for the development of the Deohal, which will be undertaken with a fund of Rs. 1 crore 8 lakhs approved by the Tai Ahom Development Counsil. The ceremony was attended by Cabinet Minister Jogendra Mohan, Chairman of Tai Ahom Development Counsil Mayur Borgohain, historian Padmashree Jogendranath Phukan, representatives of various organizations such as AATASU and TAIPA and other dignitaries.
The event highlights the efforts of the Assam government to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Tai Ahom community. The development of the Deohal is expected to not only enhance the spiritual and cultural significance of the site but also promote tourism in the region.
Dam-Phi Puja was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm, highlighting the rich cultural traditions of the Tai Ahom community. The event was a testament to the community's strong cultural roots and their efforts to preserve and promote their heritage.

Alleging about the neglect and deprivation faced by the Ahom community of Nazira constituency the Members of the All Assam Tai Ahom burnt effigies of BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal and MP Kamakhya Prashad Tasa in front of the Nazira BJP office. They raised slogans against the party and held that due to a conspiracy between Sonowal and Tasa the Ahom community of Nazira remains depraved. Despite having the majority number of voters, candidates of Ahom descent never chanced to contest from Nazira constituency they added.

A two-days-long 15th annual conference of the Sivasagar district All Assam Students Union (AASU) was held at Maut Gaon, Simaluguri on on January 4-5. The new executive committee was formed in this conferance with Samiron Phukon became the general secretary and Ashim Dutta as the new president. Abhijit Dulakhakhoria (30) of Namti Dupdor gaon died in a bike accident at 9 AM on Thursday in the main road of Nazira town, when he was trying to cross the road. The other rider Nipul Gogoi (26) was also seriously injured and reffered to the Assam Medical College Hospital of Dibrugarh.
