Guwahati: Setting at rest the three month long speculations in Assam politics, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday admitted that he visited Pakistan in 2013 along with his wife on professional background.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the deputy leader of the Oppostion in Lok Sabha made it clear that his wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, was engaged with an NGO to be stationed in Pakistan in 2011 for a year as part of her official duties.
“yes, I visited Pakistan only once, in 2013, in full compliance with the Government of India’s rules and regulations. My personal and professional life has always been transparent and aligned with the national interest,” said Gogoi.
In response to the controversies on his family's citizenship, the Jorhat MP said that his wife and two children hold British citizenship.
