Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the gas cracker project at Lepetkota in Dibrugarh would be completed in time . The Chief Minister on Sunday visited the multi-crore project and reviewed its progress with high level officers. The senior officials of the project explained the progress of work with a map during the discussion. He admitted that various reasons forced delay in the project but of late, it is progressing rapidly.
Prime minister Manmohan Singh laid the cornerstone of the multi-crore project in April 26, 2006.. The prime minister announced that the project would be completed within a period of five years.

AASU did provide their basic demands.Its true that one project cannot take all of the unemplyment from the state.
Also ,100% may not be a justified demand but i think 80% : 20% percent is justified one.
It very important that brilliant students be at top because else the project may go hayway and this will again prevent the feasible futuristic employment.

Forty people have been injured while a Dergaon-Jorhat bus fell into a deep gorge before it reached the destination. According to information, the incident that left ten people seriously injured took place at around 10-45 in the morning near the Jorhat Coca Cola factory when the driver lost the control after developing a technical snag. A failure government on the law and order front in Assam has been behind the BLT-NDFB clashes in the Bodo dominated areas in the state. This is alleged by Assam BJP unit spokesman Charan Deka. Addressing a pres conference in the city on Monday Mr Deka alleged that the Government has been failing to control the deteriorating the state’s law and order scenario. Deka cited some figures to justify his claim saying 2152 murder cases with 2024 rape cases in the state from April 2005 to November 2007. Deka also maintained that the Government is going to to impose new entry tax on some essential commodities.
Police detained several workers of the state animal husbandry and veterinary department at the dharna site on Monday while they were holding protest in front of the directorate office demanding government steps to regularize their jobs. A Kamrup district session court on Monday sentenced life imprisonment for four CRPF jawans chargesheeted by CBI in the Imphal firing case where nine people were killed in 1995. One hardcore ULFA cadre died at an encounter with Army in Dibrugarh district's Kakopathar area on Monday. According to information, the ULFA cadre was identified as Kanak Chetia who is known to be the outfit's IED expert. A chinese pistol and some explosive materials have been recovered from his possession.
