KOKRAJHAR: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Bongaigaon Salakati organized a rural sports meet on Friday, March 29th, in collaboration with the Sports Council and the District Sports Officer of Kokrajhar. This event, held under the power station's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aimed to promote physical activity and sportsmanship among the youth of nearby villages.
Students from five local schools - Dholmara High School, Salakati M.E. School, Salakati Junior College, Jaregaon High School, and BTPS High School - participated with great enthusiasm. The exciting competition featured six events: 100-meter and 200-meter races, 100 x 4-meter relay race, long jump, shot put, and discus throw.
Nearly 45 students showcased their athletic prowess, with the top three finishers in each category receiving medals and certificates of achievement. Additionally, all participants were presented with school bags and participation certificates to acknowledge their efforts and sportsmanship.
Esteemed dignitaries, including Sh. Karunakar Das, Executive Director of NTPC Bongaigaon, graced the event along with senior management officials. Representatives from sports associations and unions also attended to support and encourage the young athletes.
In his address, Sh. Das highlighted the importance of such events in fostering community engagement in sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle. He emphasized NTPC Bongaigaon's commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture sporting talent, promote community integration, and contribute to the holistic development of youth.
Dholmara High School emerged as the Champion School, bagging an impressive 10 medals (4 gold, 5 silver, and 1 bronze). Salakati Senior Secondary School secured the runner-up position with 8 medals (3 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze).
Officials from the District Sports Office, Kokrajhar, ensured fair and transparent competition by overseeing and judging the matches.
This initiative by NTPC Bongaigaon Salakati not only promoted physical fitness but also instilled valuable life skills like teamwork, discipline, and determination in the young participants, contributing to their overall development.
