TISS Guwahati held annual convocation

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Guwahati Off-Campus held its 9th Annual Convocation on 4 February 2023 to celebrate its graduating students of the academic year 2021-2022. The event took place at the Jalukbari premises of the campus and was attended by important guests, including the Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commission, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, and the Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission, Mr. Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury.

149 students graduated from TISS Guwahati Off-Campus in the academic year 2021-2022, with 4 students obtaining PhD degrees, 7 students obtaining MPhil degrees, 100 students obtaining MA and MASW degrees in different programs, and 38 students obtaining a BA degree in Social Sciences.

During the Convocation, the Chairman of the Governing Board of TISS, Mr. Vijay Singh, gave a speech through the Director of the Institute, Prof. Shalini Bharat. He praised the graduating students for their progress and encouraged them to use their education to make a positive impact on the world.

The special invitee, Mr. Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, spoke about how the subjects taught at TISS Guwahati would never become irrelevant due to the socio-cultural diversity of the courses. He encouraged the students to use their education for the betterment of the country and its citizens.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Deepak Kumar Sivastava, spoke about how TISS serves as an inspiration to other higher education institutes in the country. He praised the students for persevering through the difficulties brought on by the pandemic and added that TISS plays an important role in shaping the students into global citizens with deep-rooted pride and intellect.

The Convocation ended with the guests being felicitated and a vote of thanks proposed by the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Jagannath Ambagudia.
