In remembrance of my Beloved Grandfather Late Md Alimuddin Ahmed

Well-known and highly respected Asst. Head Master, special educationalist, social worker, and full of discipline, my loving grandfather – Md Alimuddin Ahmed, passed away in his own residence at Paschim Nalbari, Chamata on 20th May, 2022. His ideal perfection, sincerity and strong personality has always inspired us. My Nana (Grandfather), lived a life full of principles, honesty and wisdom. The moment, I came to know that he is no more, it gave me heartfelt sadness and shiver inside me. It cannot be expressed in words. The love, and blessings he gave me, will be the most precious thing in my life. Nana (Grandfather) was my dearly beloved and I have gained a lot of principles from him. As the first grand-child (Granddaughter) of the whole family, I have received lots of love and care from both of my grandparents (Nana and Nani). From the time of nursery, I remember the moments shared with my grandfather. Since, my father-Mr. Idrish Ali, was serving in IOCL (Bongaigaon Refinery), therefore; we used to stay in refinery’s quarter since birth. Sometimes, My Grandfather went to our quarter at Bongaigaon Refinery and felt immense happiness to spend lovely time with us. I have heard from my mother that, after my birth, when I visited my grandfather’s house for the first time, although the home was properly cleaned, it was again newly painted by all the mamas (uncles) on the eve of my arrival. Nana gifted me a gold chain while taking me in his arms for the first time. Like my Nana and Nani, all my 4 mamas also love me so much. Nana advised us many things regarding our studies, especially I have learned a lot of English Grammar from him. He was Asst. Head Master of Chamata Girls’ High School. Prior to this, he served in NF Railways, Guwahati in 1957.

So far my remembrance, from class-I onwards, after our every Annual exams ,our all the family members visit Nana Nani’s home at Chamata, and stay for a couple of days. I cherish those days, and will be my most memorable days with them. During our stay, Nana and Nani took very special care of us, we can’t forget those days, and will now miss it forever. Nani left us almost 10 years ago, and now Nana also has left all of us in 2022. Since Nana was there, we were happy to visit our Chamata home.

I pray to Almighty Allah, wherever Nana and Nani are now, they are granted Jannat-E-Firdaus.

When I was studying in class-IX, Nana went through an eye operation at Guwahati, and after the operation he went to our quarter in Bongaigaon and stayed with us for almost one month. We are happy that we got this opportunity to serve him during this period. In the morning, when I wake up for my studies, nana also wakes up for his morning walk in our garden. We walk together, and then have breakfast. After that, he used to ask questions regarding my studies, and especially, he clarified all my doubts in English Grammar. He used to give me different puzzles and grammar related questions to solve.

After my class-X results, he came to our quarter for wishing me, and blessed me with a very special gift. He blessed me with further achievements in my life. He asked me what stream I would opt for, i.e., Science or Arts? Then, I replied, I want to take Science and do Engineering. He was very happy with my choice, and advised me, that, whatever I do, I should do it with my 100 % effort, which will lead to my sure success. Accordingly, with the blessings of Nana and Nani, I passed B.E. (Civil) in 2015, and MBA (Finance & Mktg), and Nana became extremely happy and felt proud with my results.

After MBA, through placement, I got an offer of appointment in a Pvt Organization, in Rajgarh, Guwahati. On receipt of this news, Nana became highly pleased and advised me to love the job, perform the duty sincerely, then only job will love me for my higher achievements. Nana also assured me that his blessing will always be with me for success in my service-life. He quoted me -‘’ Best, Best.. you will go ahead. I know.’’

On receipt of my first salary, I gifted a very small gift (sweater), which he accepted and felt proud of the plea that his granddaughter had gifted him. He even preserved the packet carefully.

Due to illness, he was in ICU, GNRC, and I went to see him from my office. The first question he asked me was, with whom you have come, ilumoni? I answered, I came alone from the office, Nana. He thought for a while, and answered, that I should not come alone. Again, he asked with whom I will return? He advised not to return alone. He loved me so much that, even from ICU bed also, such type of advice has been given to me and I will never forget this. He used to call me “ILUMONI”, and this nickname was given to him.

Due to a busy schedule of life, and since we have now settled in Guwahati, we could not frequently visit Nana’s house, and we used to visit sometimes. But we talked over the phone, and Nana also rang us.

Nana was always in smiling face, and whenever we went, he enjoyed a lot with us. We cannot conclude talking all the things about him. He will be alive forever in our hearts.

May Almighty Allah grant him with the open doors of Jannat-E-Firdaus, Aameen.
From loving Grand-daughter, JERIFA WAHID ( ILUMONI ) , Guwahati, Assam
