Raha police bags first prize at inter police station Bihu competition

The Bihu team from Raha police station at the inter district police station open bihu competition at Nagaon police reserve playground has bagged first prize.

The competition was organised on the occasion of celebration of  President's colours  award to Assam police by Nagaon police at Nagaon police reserve playground on Tuesday. 

The bihu team from Raha P S led by officer- in- charge Arpan Saikia had attracted the attention of the audience and the judges because of the beautiful bihu dances of all the team members.

Senior officials of the Nagaon police, including Leena Doley, superintendent of police , Dhruba Bora , additional superintendent of police , Nirupam Hazarika , ASP ( Security), Deputy SPs and officers-in-charge of all the police stations in the district and many other distinguished guests were present at the event.

Bihu team from Samaguri P S bagged the second prize while Police reserve bihu team secured third position, respectively, at the event. The judges' special award was given to Dhing police station bihu team.

The trophies were handed over to the winning bihu teams by Leena Doley amidst a large gathering.

A total of fifteen bihu teams from different police stations of the district took part in the competition.

Speeding trucks have been an agent of death on the National Highway these days. An oil tanker crushed to death a person in Raha on Thursday. The shocking incident took place at Jongal Balahu Garh when identified as Prafulla Biswas, the person was run over by a Guwahati bound oil tanker as he was trying to cross the four-lane National Highway in the afternoon.
Its strange but true. A money like kid is born. But the mother is a goat. The bizarre incident took place at Madhya Tupakuchi in Raha on Thursday morning. A tiny hamlet in Raha suddenly drew the attention of thousands of the people when a goat gave birth to two kids which resembled a monkey. Talking to Assam Times, the owner said,” I could not believe my eyes. I am at my wit’s end. What to do.” The heads resembled the face of monkey features– the eyes, the nose and the mouth – only the ears were those of a goat. "This incident is very shocking. It is my first time to see such an unnatural thing. It is really embarrassing," an onlooker told Assam Times after she came to see the kids.
Tiwa Students on Friday burnt the effigy of Rama Kanta Dewri in Raha to protest the recent attack on two of their colleagues. The students of Raha and Barapujia thronged the National Highway at Raha and burnt the effigy of the TAC chief. Led by ATSU president Prahlad Mosrong, the students further demanded Dewri’s arrest in this connection. Notably, the student body on Thursday called for the 12 hour central Assam bandh in this connection.
The 12-hour middle Assam bandh called by All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU ) today passed off peacefully at Raha and its neighbouring areas Dharamtul, Ahatguri, Chaparmukh,Barapujia, Phulaguri, Demow without any untoward incident. Normal life comes to a grindng halt in the Central Assam districts following the 12 bandh call by two Tiwa organizations on on Thursday. Vehicles are off from the roads. Schools and colleges, shops and markets have been remaining closed under the impact of the bandh which began at 5 in the morning.  The All Assam Tiwa Students Union and Tiwa Autonomous Council have called for a 12 hour central Assam bandh in protest against the alleged attack on its two leaders. Two persons sustained injury when a vehicle carrying them met with a mishap near Raha in Nagaon district on Monday. The mishap took place at Bagariguri at 7.30 in the morning. Identified as Moidul Islam and Hibzur Rahman, the injured were rushed to the Nagaon Civil Hospital.
In a major breakthrough, police have caught three notorious gang of car lifters in Nagaon on Thursday.
