A 13th Assam Police Battalion jawan shot dead his colleague before killing himself at Lilabari camp in Lakhimpur distict on Thursday midnight. The reason has yet to be ascertained.
The incident took place on Thursday midnight at the 13th Assam Police Battalion. After the dinner, all the jawans went to sleep at their barracks. Jawan Arun Saikia who hails from Chutiabari in the same district shot dead his colleague Palash Baruah with his Nine MM pistol while the latter was sleeping. As there was flutter inside the barrack following the death of Palash, Arun shot himself dead with the same pistol. It is learnt that both the bachelors were closed to each other. Palash was a resident of Dholpur in Bihpuria. On that day, Arun formally fixed his marriage. He was the guard of the arsenal while Palash was known to be a good player in volley ball.
