Awareness programme on child rights held
An awareness programme on child marriage, child rights and protection was organised by Kokrajhar Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in association with All BTAD Gaonbura Association, here at Gaonbura Bhavan in Kokrajhar on Thursday.Over 50 Gaonburas from different villages under Kokrajhar block participated the programme.
Chairperson of the CWC, Kokrajhar, Malati Rani Narzary graced the programme and spoke at length on the issues related to crimes against children like child marriage, child sexual abuse, child labour etc. She highlighted the measures taken by of the government like childline and child welfare committee (CWC). She said it is the responsibility of the each and every person of the society to protect the rights of the children.
Protection officer, DCPU, Kokrajhar Ankur Dutta spoke on the problems and possibilities such as child marriage, child labour and POCSO Act. He highlighted the need to thoroughly understand POCSO Act and JJ Act and urged the society to come forward while bringing out welfare of the children among society.
President of All BTAD Gaonbura Association Dhananjay Brahma, secretary Robert Kerketta, CWC members-Babli Basumatary, Mousumi Bhattacharjee, P Brahma Choudhury and Child Protection Officer, Kokrajhar Louis Basumatary were attended and spoke on the occasion and shared their experiences and stressed on the need to organize such programme extensively in different parts of the districts among the public and local villagers.
The meeting has also decided to form village level child protection committee in very villages in the district where it is yet to be formed and promise to work united to safeguard and protect the right of every child.

KOKRAJHAR: Six students from Bangladesh took admissin in various educational institutes in Kokrajhar. The students are from Khagrachhari ditsrict of Bangladesh and belong to the Bodo community.

A 17-year-old youth has died and another his colleague was rescued after drowning at Hell River at Fakiragram in Kokrajhar.
The incident took place on Sunday evening at Dhopertal village along the Hell River.
The duo hailed from Maligaon Guwahati visited their reltives house at Fakiragram. They went to the Hell River to have a bath in the afternoon and met the mishap.

Kokrajhar: The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and Bodo community recalled contributions of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and his contribution towards upliftmentof the Bodo literary and language; on his 19th death anniversary at his burial place at Chandamari in Kokrajhar on Monday.
The anniversary was organized under the aegis of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) in association with Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust to mark the occasion. Brahma was shot dead by armed extremist at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati on 19th August in 2000 when he was president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

Bodo sahitya sabha and Bodo peoples remembered former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha late Bineswar Brahma on his 19th death anniversary on Monday at his burial place Chandamari in Kokrajhar.
Brahma was shot by armed militant cadres at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati in 2000.

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar police seized 1.80 quintles of ganja illegally carrying in a truck and arrested the driver near Karigaon national highway on Thursday. He was identified as Shyam Kumar Mahato of Bihar.
The truck came from Agartala and bound for West Bengal.
Police brought the seized under its custody and interogation is on. Police said that market value of the sized Ganja would be amounting of nearly 20 lakhs.
KOKRAJHAR: Adhya sradhya of former MP Charan Narzary is going to be held at his Hatimata residence in Kokrajhar town on Sunday. Narzary breathed his last on July 23 due to age ailments.
He was the founding general secretary of the Plains Tribal Council of Assam (now defunct), former MLA from Kokrajhar east, former professor in Kokrajhar Govt College and associated with several organization. He was also well known writer in Bodo literature besides contributed a lot towards social uplifting in the region.
He was regarded as a prominent political leader among Bodo as well tribal peoples in the state. He born on 28th May in 1933 at Hatimata in Kokrajhar town.He was 86.

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces apprehended a hard-core cadre of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) on Friday from Samukha Nala area under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district.
The arrested cadre was identified as Dipak Basumatary @ B. Dwibai @Jolo (23) of Maina Nagar near Bishmuri. He was a Myanmar trained hardcore NDFB(S) cadre of 42nd batch and a member of the Batha Group.
One 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine, two live rounds and cash 200 were recovered from his possession. Further investigation is on.
KOKRAJHAR: One person died in Kokrajhar due to Japanese Enchapalitis (JE) on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Rijendra Nath Brahma (72) of Patakata, Kokrajhar district.
Brahma was admitted to MRM hospital, Kokrajhar on Sunday. He breathed his last on Monday morning. Earlier, he was discharged from Apollo hospital Guwahati where he was treated for Japanese Enchapalitis. Brahma was a retired block education officer.
