7 ULFA cadres surrender

Seven ULFA-I cadres surrenderd on Monday before police in Tinsukia.

The cadres were identified as Barun Asom, Sourav Asom, Utpal Asom, Bosonto Asom, Ninja Asom, Mazid Moran and Shekharjyoti Asom.

Police paraded the surrendered ULFA cadres before media on Tuesday.

Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh is still on the boil. Unidentified miscreants forcibly took away 15 girls and women on Monday morning hardly a week 12 villagers were killed in Chauldhuwa.According to information, miscreants kidnapped these Adivashi and Karbi girls and women at gunpoint from Nomara area while they were working at a stone quarry.Later the miscreants passed the information to the gaonburah and called him to hold a discussion on the issue. Dressed in traditional attire, thousands of people in Guwahati took a huge cultural procession in the city on the last day of the Asom Sahitya Sabha’s special session on Monday.Led by Sabha president Imran Shah, the 7km long colourful procession took off from the Rudra Singha Sports Complex and covered the entire city mesmerizing the Guwahatians in the morning.Students from the various schools and colleges were also seen participating in the procession much to the delight of the Sahitya Sabha officials. The session is set to end on Monday after the cultural function in the evening.
Despite the indefinite economic blockade in Sonitpur district, suspected miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh unleashed a reign of terror in Bihali on Monday.The miscreants made several rounds of firing at a tiny hamlet along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Monday wee hours. The fresh incident of attack took place at Jinjinia in the wee hours where the miscreants set on fire a house before leaving the village.Security forces rushed to the spot. But by then they managed to escape from the village.      
The death toll in the Chauldhua attack gas gone up to 12 with the recovery of one more body in Hatipota area.The decomposed body was recovered by the local villagers on Monday morning. It has yet to be identified. Hardly a week has passed since 11 people were found to have been killed by the Arumachal Pradesh miscreants at a camp in Chauldhuwa resulting in the indefinite economic blockade against the neighbouring state.  
Hundreds of students in Guwahati hit the streets in the city in protest against the Lajpotnagar incident in New Delhi where goons killed an Arunachal Pradesh student.With placards and banners in their hands, the students in large number shouted slogans demanding measures to curb the increasing incident of racial attack on the north eastern people in the national capital. Identified as Nido Tania, the student from the neighbouring state was beaten to death by a group of shopkeepers following an altercation in the Lajpotnagar area in the capital on Thursday.Photo: Protest rally at Shillong. 
Amid an indefinite economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh in protest against the Bihali attack, NCLT is accused of masterminding the Chauldhuwa incident where 10 villagers were killed in firing.Sources further have charged a Tawang district council member with masterminding the incident.
Sonitpur police have registered two cases in connection with the Chauldhuwa massacre. This was what formally DGP Khagen Sarma told reporters in Tezpur on Sunday.Sarma, who reviewed the situation in the district with Deputy Commissioner Lalit Gogoi and Superintendent of Police Sayukta Parashar along with Army officials at a high level meeting in Tezpur Circuit House said that the Arunachal Pradesh government has also registered a case in this connection.
Counter offensive against the insurgent outfits are getting intensified in the BTAD areas.Security forces claimed to have killed a dreaded KLO militant at an encounter in Kokrajhar on Saturday. According to information, the fierce gun fighting took place at Salakati area at night during the combing operation against all militant outfits in the area.KLO leader Brindabon Rajbanshi died on the spot and another dreaded militant managed to escape from the spot. Combing operation is going on in search of the militant on the run.
