The Inter IIT sports meet is organized each year to encourage sportsmanship, to promote and create a better harmony, understanding and friendly interaction among the students of the IITs, as well as to foster a close association among them. The meet is organized in three legs, the Aquatic Meet, the Main Meet and the Staff Meet. We are glad to inform you that the 53rd edition of the Inter IIT Sports Meet is being organized by IIT Guwahati.

The event will be inaugurated by Shiny Wilson, an Arjuna award winner who has been a National Champion in 800 meters for 14 years and represented India in Asian Games and Olympics. In the opening ceremony, she will be joined by Mariyappan Thangavelu, who won a Gold Medal in 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and is a Padma Shri and Arjuna Award winner.
With over 3500 participants, more than 50 events and 500+ matches, this edition is going to be one of the biggest throughout the history of the Inter IIT Sports Meet. This will also be the first time when the talent of the differently abled individuals will be acknowledged with the inclusion of para-powerlifting among other competitive sports.

Barring a few stray incidents polling for the first phase of panchayat election are over registering a huge turn out in 8 districts on Wednesday.The polling began at 7 in the morning and ended at 3 in the afternoon where 28,680 candidates are in the fray in eight districts. Normal train services remained heavily disrupted in Goalpara and Kamrup districts on Tuesday when ARSU activists blocked the roads in protest against holding of panchayat elections in Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council areas. ULFA has owned up the responsibility of the strike in oil pipeline at Makum on Tuesday. The first phase will decide the fate of altogether 28,680 candidates in eight districts.
Of them, 643 candidates will contest for the post of Zilla Parishad member, 2,801 for Anchalik Panchayat member, 3,099 candidates for Gaon Panchayat president's post and 22,137 candidates filed their nominations for Gaon Panchayat membership.
First phase will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The counting of votes would take place on February 14 and February 15.
Aaranyak’s wildlife biologist, Purnima Devi Barman who has been working continuously on conservation of Greater Adjutant Stork species has completed an international field training in a remote forest area on Cambodia on nesting monitoring and biology of Greater Adjutant Stork.
