Shoot out at Panbari - two militants killed
In the wee hours of 28th October two militants were killed in a joint operation conducted by 11Guards Regiment of Indian Army and Assam Police, in the Panbari-Methoni area of Bokakhat under Golaghat District. The dead bodies of the killed militants were not yet identified. According to the sources working on a secret tip off the security personnel launched the joint operation. It is not yet confirmed to which militants group the dead militants belong. Security personnel claim that they recovered two 9mm pistols along with four live cartridges from the militants. Apart from the security forces' version, it is alleged that the militants were formerly captured by the security forces and there after they were murdered by the security personnel.

Nearly 1200 members of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity, Nari Mukti Sangram Samity and Brihattar Tengani Mukti Sangram Samity staged a rail blockade programme at Jamuguri, Furkating and Borpathar at Golaghat District from 11 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, demanding the immediate release of peasant leader and firebrand RTI activist Akhil Gogoi. As a result of the blockade, the movement of Janasatabdi Express, Amritsar Express and a Passenger train was disrupted at Jamuguri, Furkating and Borpathar respectively. The blockade was called off temporarily at 2 pm but the organisations have warned of more strict and severe agitation in the coming days if Akhil Gogoi is not released in the next few days.

Normal life has been affected today in Golaghat following a 12-hour Assam Bandh called by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity. The whole of Golaghat Town were a deserted look during the Bandh. An Assamese lady has been alleged to be burnt by her husband in Bangalore on 19th June. The incident is another gory death caused by increasing dowry demand by the victim’s husband. The victim, Priakhi Baruah, 19, of Balijan in Golaghat District, had married Apurba Saikia of Jamunamukh in Nagaon District, in January this year. Election expenditure incurred by contesting candidates of the recently concluded Assam Assembly Election from Golaghat and Khumtai Legislative Assembly Constituencies has submitted their accounts for inspection before the District Election Officer (DEO), Golaghat on 12th and 13th June.
