Gangrape in Kampur: 8 held
RAHA: The Nagaon police on Saturday have arrested eight youths twenty four hours after they gangraped a women in full view of her husband in Kakoti gaon near Kampur sending huge shock and anger across the state.
The shocking incident took place on Thursday night where the miscreants gangraped the woman after assaulting her husband whom they tied with a rope.
According to information, the couple while travelling from Jagiroad to Hojai by train on Thursday night came into contact with Mazrat Ali in the train. The miscreant Mazrat Ali,who hailed from Baruabali , near Kakati Gaon forced the couple to come down at Chaparmukh Junction as the train the trio boarded was for another route.
As the time passed on, taking advantage of inavailability of another train to Hojai , Mazrat lured the couple to take shelter at his home at Baruabali Gaon for the night.
He also assured the couple to help them board another train on the next day to their destination Hojai. Believing Mazrat , the couple followed him walking to his village. On their way to Baruabali Gaon , Mazrat Ali ‘s friends who had been there waiting for Mazrat and the couple arrival at the spot gangraped the woman in front of her husband.
Her husband said, "When we were travelling on a train from Jagiroad, a person who said that he is hailing from Kakati Gaon area, talked with us and asked us where we will go. The man then forcefully made us come down from the train at Chaparmukh railway junction and urged us to go with him to his residence,” he said.
Later, the victim couple lodged an FIR with Kampur police acting on which Kampur police led by Shomeswar Konwar , Officer In-charge, Kampur P S , jumped into action to nab the miscreants.
Meanwhile , Police have arrested all the eight miscreants involved in the case. The eight arrested identified as Mazrat Ali ( 24 ) , Ikramul Hoque ( 22 ), Farzul Haque ( 24 ) Mazidul Ahmed ( 25 ) Sultan Ali ( 24 ) Nazirul Haque ( 20 ) Habibur Rahman ( 21 ) Mamtaz Ali ( 27 ).

Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.
