Political leaders rush to Assam as they spot Darrang, Udalguri

A few days after an end to the communal clash, political leaders from Delhi are flying to in Udalguri and Darrang districts of Assam to woo the voters in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

A 3-member AICC delegation has visited the violence-hit areas in Udalguri and Darrang districts on Sunday and assessed the situation. Led by former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi, the delegation further announced Rs 1 lakh compensation from the party to the families of those killed in the carnage.

The delegation comprising former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi, union minister of state for home Sakeel Ahmed and MP H S Khan on Sunday visited the relief camps in Bhakatpara, Besimari, Routa and Udalguri. The affected people elaborated before the delegation how the miscreants set their houses afire in full view of police and security forces at the height of the the violence.

everal organisations including AMSU, ABSU, Bodo Peace Forum, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Citizen Forum categorically submitted a set of memorandum before the delegation. Moreover, the delegation attended a public meeting in Routa in presence of BTAD chief Hagrama Mohilary.

Union minister of state for home Sakil Ahmed announced a Rs. 1 lakh compensation each to the families of those killed in the clash. The delegation would submit its findings on October 14 before Sonia Gandhi.

Next to arrive in the state is Samajwadi Party general Secretary Amar Singh who was of the view that there might be involvement of a third force behind the string of violence. He urged the government to find out the force. After touring the violence hit areas, he announced a Rs. 50 lakh financial assistance from the party for the relief of the affected people.

A NDFB-S rebel identified as Buddhiram Basumatary alias Birkw of Amteka Debrabil in Chirang district was apprehanded from Karigaon area in Kokrajhar by security forces belonging to the Army on Sunday morning. Congress is gearing up to form the Tiwa Autonomous Council after the ruling party won 15 out of 31 seats.
