Ganja seized

The police personel of the Dokmoka outpost on October 12, at around 6.45 am seized approximately 70 kg of ganja from a Diphu to Guwahati bound Karbi Anglong Autonomus Council (KAAC) bus. Police also arrested three persons, identified as Wilto Miju (17), Robert Mizu (32),both hails from Rengkai district of Manipur and Kishore Kumar Singh (40) of Imphal, in this connection. The team of police was lead by Khargeswar Bordoloi, in-charge of Dokmoka outpost.

Mahanta demands probe into Raha firing

ASI shoots self at Raha police station

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Raha police station committed suicide by shooting himself at his official residence on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Subhash Gogoi posted at Raha police station in May 21,2015. The body of the 45-year-old assistant sub-inspector was found lying in a pool of blood on his bed at around 12.10 pm. The deceased shot at his head from point blank range with his service revolver and died immediately. Untoward incidents mar bandh in Raha

Marred by a slew of untoward incidents, the 12 hour central Assam bandh concluded on Monday evening called by 8 organizations demanding the proposed AIIMS in Raha. The untoward incident took place when a section of bandh supporters tried to enforce bandh call by pelting stones and water bottles at some vehicles on the National Highway No 37 in Raha. A group of bandh supporters set on fire many shops at Ambagan and attacked some of the local businessmen who allegedly tried to defy the call. Angkur Jyoti Bora, a resident of Rahachaki village, Raha and a student of Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon  who topped in the State in Science stream, wants to become an engineer. Two injured in grenade attack

Two persons were injured when suspected militants lobbed a grenade on a hardware shop named Khatuwala hardware at Raha chariali on National Highway 37 on Tuesday evening police said. The suspected ultras hurled a grenade on the shop at 6.45 p.m, police said. Police said the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the entrance of the shop causing splinter injuries to two laboures of the shop. The injured, Ganesh Nath and Babul Ali were immediately shifted to hospital.

Peaceful polling in Raha

The polling in Raha LAC (SC) passed off peacefully except one incident of malfunctioning of EVMS at 104 no. Sial Bhangi LP Schooli. The brisk polling was witnessed in the morning on Monday at several polling stations at Raha and its outskirts. The casting was started as usual in all the 201 polling stations.  According to officials, 80 % polling was reported in Raha LAC in which many first time voters - young men and women - exercised their franchise.

BJP, AIUDF workers join Congress at Raha

The BJP and AIUDF of Raha LAC were on a back foot when more than 200 senior BJP and AIUDF leaders and workers joined the Congress at a function held at Chahari panchayat under Raha LAC on Tuesday. Apart from the BJP, AIUDF workers, 50 members from each of Gana Mancha and Tiwa Jatiya Aikya Mancha also joined the Congress under the leadership of Nirananda Konwar and Dharmasingha Patar.
