KOHIMA: Defying the poll boycott call by many civil society organizations, 22 candidates filed nominations in Nagaland on Tuesday a day ahead of the last date. These candidates are contesting from Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), NPF, BJP and JD(U). A few more candidates are turning up o Wednesday.
NDPP has 8 candidates, 4 in Kohima 2 each in Phek and Zunheboto. BJP has 6 candidates 1 each in Dimapur, Phughoboto Phek and Wokha and 2 in Zunheboto. NPF has 6 candidates—3 in Phek 1 in Zunheboto, 2 in Wokha and 1 in Tuensang. A JD(U) candidate has filed nomination in Wokha.
Five districts namely Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, Peren and Mokokchung have received no nomination till Tuesday. Scrutiny will be done on Thursday and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 12.
