IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the state is bracing up for shouldering a huge burden if it implements the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. Participating in the discussion on the Governor's address in the House, he said the resource deficient state of Manipur will not be able to implement the 7th Pay Commission now.
He said, "It'll be a very difficult job for the state. Unlike Manipur, a state like Arunachal Pradesh is a hydro-power rich state where the 7th Pay Commission has been implemented." Finance Minister Y Joykumar Singh also cited lack of resources as the key reason for not implementing the 7th Pay recommendations and said the same will add additional burden of Rs 1,400 crore to the state exchequer annually.
He said this while responding to a question raised by Opposition MLA O Henry in the House. However, he suggested in the House that the state government will try to make efforts to seek special package from the Centre for the same purpose.
The Manipur government employees affiliated to the Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) has been protesting against the state government's "inordinate delay" in implementing the 7th Pay Commission.
