Ravaging inferno in Namrup; 35 shops gutted
NAMRUP: Properties worth crores of rupees were reduced to ashes when the Daily Market in the BVFCL premises in Namrup caught fire on Friday.
The incident took place in the wee hours because of electric short circuit where at least 35 big and small shops were gutted in the huge fire.
Fire fighters from BVFCL, OIL, APL were deployed to bring the situation under control. But by then the inferno ravaged these 35 shops and stalls. Smokes are still bellowing from a number if shops.
The owner of the Rupkanya Stores,alone, claimed to have lost properties worth ₹45 lakh not yo speak of what the owners of Tarana Tailors claimed.
The real extent of damage, however, has yet to be ascertained. The police have been investigating the incident.

Properties worth Rs.1 crore were reduced to ashes when a huge inferno ravaged the Namrup Thermal Replacement Power Plant on Thursday. Originated from electric short circuit, the fire broke out at around 3 in the morning at the control room where two boards of the Automatic Voltage Regulator Pannel Board wwere totally destroyed. Fire tenders from APL and BVFCL took around three hours to bring the situation under control. There is no report of anybcasualty. Namrup Teachers Day celebrated in Namrup , 300 teachers feliciated by Namrup AASU and cultural rally taken by Namrup Public High School. Namrup, 5September :- Namrup also joined the nationwide celebration of Teachers’ Day to mark the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on Tuesday. Schools and colleges in the entire of Dibrugarh district wore a fresh look with students greeting the teachers, holding meetings and seminars to falicitate the teaching fraternity. Hundreds of students in Namrup hit the streets alleging police failure to nab the youth who misbehaved with a college girl a week ago. Organized by the Namrup local AASU, the protest got huge response on Monday where the participants shouted slogans against the failure of the authority. For the first time in the north eastern region Namrup is gearing up to celebrate 3rd anniversary of Shree Ram Sharnam Ashram on August 30 and 31. Namrup also joined the 71st Independence Day with much pomp and gaiety on Tuesday. The eye of attraction was the BVFCL Gandhi Field where BVFCL Director (Production) and CMD incharge Shyam Deo Singh hoisted the National Tricolour and and took salute of the March pass by CISF jawans.
