GUWAHATI:Two more wild elephants were crushed to death by a train in thr outskirt of Guwahati city sending huge shockwaves among the animal lovers on Sunday.
The incident took place at Thakurkuchi near Chandrapur where the Awadh Assam Express- Down rammed into a herd of wild elephants which came down from the Amchang reserved forest in search of food. The local residents' spotted the two carcasses only inthe morning.
"I came to hear elephants crying as the train crossed the area. But I did not believe this tragic incident. I am shocked to have seen it," said Nagen Das, a local resident.
The huge herd of elephants often keep coming down to the human habitat in search of food. "They are still hiding in the sense jungle. At any moment they might come out. We are scared of these. Of course, the forest officials are here to disperse the herd of elephants," said Nikunj Deka, a local resident.
