GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.
A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.
A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.
Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.
Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has barred all visitors from entering the State from 21 March.
In an order issued on Thursday, the government said that all visitors/tourist inner line permits stand cancelled with immediate effect.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a tweet said that as precautionary measure, Arunachal is closing its door to all visitors in view of Covid-19 pandemic.
He said all inner line permits (ILPs) issued earlier stand cancelled. He said the well-being of the people of the State comes first.

Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, scheduled for 4 April next, has been postponed indefinitely. State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar on Friday informed that the polling for the council is being deferred in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country.
