India got its first woman President. Pratibha Patil won the Presidential elctions by 3,06,810 votes. Pratibha Patil, the UPA candidate defeated her rival Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who was backed by the NDA.There was some cross voting by BJP dissidents in Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh.
Bhairon Shingh Shekhawat has resigned from the position of Vive President as well
In Assam, Pratibha Patil has secured 92 votes while Shekhawat has secured 20 votes.

At this movement UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil has elected as President of India defeated NDA backed Independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat by over three lakh votes.She received 638,116 votes while Shekhawat got 331,306 votes.today made history by getting elected as the first woman President of the country. he Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) staged a demonstration on Wednesday in the capital demanding ST status for Adivasis, Ahome, Koch, Morans and Mataks. The regional party further demanded immediate dismissal of the Tarun Gogoi government for his failure to control the mob violence in Beltola on November 24.
An all party delegation will be leaving for New Delhi on December 9 to press the demand for ensuring ST status to the Adivasis, Morans, Mataks, Koches, Chutias and Ahomes.The decision was taken at an all party meeting convened to discuss the issue in Dispur on Monday.
