Assam bandh total, ends peacefully

The 12 hour statewide Assam bandh hits normal life  in the lower BTAD region on Monday.  

  Called  by All Bodo Student's Union(ABSU), People's Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Progressive(NDFB-P) to put pressure government for early amicable solution of Bodoland issue, ensure political rights to the Bodos, who are living outside of proposed Bodoland., the bandh was total which ended at 5 in the afternoon.

  Bandh supporters enforced it shouting slogans against government and by burning tyres at various places like at Maldang bazaar JD Road, Kachugaon, Bishmuri in Kokrajhar district. In Chirang, bandh supporters obstructed moving of all kinds of communication at Kajalgaon, Bijni along the 31C national highway.

 The ABSU and its allied movement groups urged government to solve the Bodoland issue through political dialogue as soon as possible. They have warned to take vigorous agitation if their demand and issues are not solved in immediate manner.

Promod Boro, president of ABSU said that the bandh was called to make aware on demand of Bodoland issue to the government. The ABSU and its allied movement groups have been carrying several agitation programmes seeking statehood to gain healthy living and integration in the region since long decades, yet fruitful results are to come.

. ‘The Bodos want to live with dignity and prosperity in the world. So, movement and protests are main strategy to put pressure government while seeking separate homeland and justice’, Boro said.

He has alleged that government has been tactically delaying the Bodoland state issue of which why the movement groups have to initiate bandh as well protest programmes in support of the issues. He has urged the government to step with pragmatic initiative to solve the long standing demand of Bodoland state.

 

  Prahalad Brahma, ABSU leader said that Bodo’s organizations have been taking movement initiative since five decades demanding Bodoland statehood, yet no fruitful results reached till date. He said even government has been holding tripartite talks on Bodoland issue on several occasion, but no final shape as well positive peak achieved into Bodoland issue.

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district. Professor Indira Boro, head of the department of Bodo for Bodoland University, has been named for an award from the Sahitya Akademy for translation in Bodo language. Dr. Boro has been named for the translation of her book Hirimba (originally written in Assamese by Jayanti Gogoi) Presently, Boro is the head of the department of Bodo at Bodoland University. Amid a strict security vigil, arrested Gujrat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was brought to Kokrajhar police station and later produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court. KOKRAJHAR: A Ganja smuggler was shot at by police in the Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar district late Wednesday night. The incident happened  in Kokrajhar in Bishmuri.
