Nagaon flood scene still grim

The flood  situation remains grim  in Nagaon district after the Brahmaputra breached an embankment  at Hatimura in Kaliabor. 

.Deputy Commisioner directed the schools to remain closed for three days from Wednesday. 

Talking to Assam Time over telephone,  Shamshersingh said that he along with the water resource Minister of the state Keshav Mahanta  did a survey along with officers of various concerned departments today at the embankment site. 

He further said that 29 relief camps were set up in the area till yesterday and relief work is going on with the help of Army, NDRF and SDRF. One person was reported dead at the flood area and actual assessment  of losses will take place after the water recedes.

Six persons, including a pregnant woman, died in a tragic road mishap at Puranigudam in Nagaon district. The mishap took place in the afternoon where four died on-the-spot. Two others succumbed to their injuries at hospital. Seven other passengers, who sustained grievous injuries, have been admitted to Nagaon Civil Hospital. The victims included the driver and the proprietor of the Tata Magic vehicle. The passengers were on their way to Jakhalabandha from Nagaon town in the same district. The dead body of a youth was recovered in Burrapahar area under Jhaklabanda Police station in Nagaon district on Thursday afternoon.The dead body has been identified as Sonal Banerjee (26 yrs) resident of Rehabari in Guwahati. One Mintu Ahmed of Panikheti village was caught stealing telephone cables from Uzaragaon village by the residents of the area in the night.
