SC grants bail to Rakesh Paul

In a huge respite for Rakesh Paul, the Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to the former Assam Public Service Commission eight months after Dibrugarh police caught him on cash for job scam.

A three judge bench of the country’s top court granted bail to Paul with no restrictions on the police to rearrest him in connection to other case. The bench observed that even after the police chargesheeted him in the multi crore scam, the special court in Guwahati has yet prosecute him.

Paul, who has been languishing at the Guwahati Central Jail is likely to come out by Thursday if police fail to register separate case to arrest him.

Paul, who allegedly took crores of rupees from candidates to ensure selection in ACS, APS and allied services ad head of the autonomous body was arrested on November 7 last year by Dibrugarh police acting on some highly objectionable inputs.
