Manipur tells Myanmar to stop violating traffic rules
The Manipur government has on Thursday informed Myanmar authority no vehicles from the neighbouring country would be allowed to violate Indian traffic rules and regulation on Indian territory.
The development comes after Manipur authority has learnt that Myanmar vehicles entering India through Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge at Gate No 1 have been violating Indian traffic rules and regulation while proceeding towards Namphalong Market.
In a letter to Deputy Commissioner, Tamu, Myanmar, Kh Raghumani Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Tengnoupal district said it has been observed that Myanmar vehicles entering India through Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No 1 have been violating Indian traffic rules and regulation.
This was resulted in accidents in the past and there are risks of tragic accidents taking place in future again, the letter said.
According to it, in the light of the above, no Myanmar would be allowed to violate Indian traffic rules and regulation on Indian side with immediate effect.
“You are therefore requested to kindly instruct all Myanmar vehicles to abide by Indian traffic rules and regulation while entering Indian territory without fail immediately,” the letter further informed the Tamu Deputy Commissioner.
Meanwhile, the Tengnoupal district Superintendent of Police has issued an order to deploy one police officer and four head constables at the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate (Gate No 1) on Indian side from 6 am to 6 pm with immediate effect for strict enforcement of Indian traffic rule and regulation until further order.

All old petrol and diesel vehicles in the country are set to convert to all-electric vehicles by installing kits by 2020. This was informed to the media by senior scientist Robindro Lairenlakpam from the Indian Institute of Petroleum Council of Scientific and Industrial Research at the Press Club here on Tuesday. He said the plan would be completed by 2020 during which 60-70 lakh old vehicles are to be converted to electric-vehicles. Robindro also informed that this plan is being taken up under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Drugs worth Rs 3 crore were intercepted here on Saturday by police and arrested a man in connection with the incident. Police said 72,000 pieces of WY tablets and 286 gm of heroin were uncovered from a sand-loaded mini truck around noon. They identified the drug peddler as Nongmaithem Ranjit, 56, son of Dolanjao of Nambol Heikrujam Nongmaithem Leikai within Bishnupur district.
