A 12 hour statewide Assam bandh hit normal life across the north eastern state on Monday. Called by six ethic groups reiterating the demand for scheduled tribe (ST) status the bandh was marked by a few stray incidents.
Koch-Rajbongshi, Moran, Motok, Chutia, Tai Ahom and Adivasi tea garden workers communities have called the bandh alleging the government failure to keep the poll promises.
Bandh supporters blocked many vital roads disrupting surface communication while some of them stopped the movement of traffic by burning tyres and prevented many shops and markets from opening during the 12 hours.
