The Chirang District Magistrate Binod Kumar Deka has imposed ban on the use of coloured and ordinary polythene bags within the district. He has issued this order today under section 144 CrPC for enforcing restriction on manufacture, store, distribute, sell and disposal made of virgine and recycled polythene bags, which are less than 50 microns in thickness.
The order further banned on suchets using plastic materials for storing, packaging and selling. In the order, it is also stated that any violation of this order would invite penal action U/S 188 CrPC as well as Section 15 of the 'Environment Protection Act, 1986' as ammended.This order is come into force with immediate effect and would remain in force until further order.
The District Magistrate has informed that this order has been taken as the plastic is not biodegradable and harmful to human being and as such, it reduces the beauty of towns, sometime blocks the water channels and thus creates artificial floods and causes infertility of agricultural land.
Meanwhile, the District Administration has ordered its officials to carry out drive to seize all plastic bags which are being bought and sold in the district.
