Bir Chilagang Basumatary remembered

Contributions of Bir Chilagang Basumatary, founder chairman of the now defunct Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) was remembered towards the Bodoland movement, who revolt with arms for the separate state of Bodoland within India, on his 20th death anniversary at his burial place Bir Chilagang Puri, Bongshigaon on Wednesday in Kokrajhar district.

Irrespective of organization, party and local people thronged to paid floral tribute at the  emetery of Basumatary at  Bongshigaon,was organized by Bir Chilagang Martyrs Tomb Development Committee, Bongshigaon.

Ramani Basumatary,widow of late Basumatary paid rich floral tribute to the tomb followed leaders from various organisations. Basumatary survived by wife,two sons and a daughter. Basumatary was the founder chairman of the then Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT) who revolt with arms for the separate state of Bodoland within India,was  born on 1st February, 1959 at Bongshigaon and expired on June 28, 1997 due to prolonged illness.

BTC executive members Rajib Brahma,Doneswar Goyary,former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma,former BTC executive member Sabharam Basumatary,Janamahan Mushahary,chairman of ex-BLT welfare sosciety, leaders from ABSU,BPF,Tribal Sangha,ABWWF paid tribute to Bsaumatary and observed condolence in memory of Basumatary for his departed soul.

Sabharam Basumatary,former BTC executive member and former BLT leader said that late Basumatary contributed a lot towards Bodo nation building in his life, hadstruggled with arms for the cause of separate of Bodoland state. He said Bir Chilagang was a leader of deep philosophy while carrying mass struggled for the caused of Bodoland state. He said the BTC administration was working for the rememberence of Chilangang among society.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar. Three individuals, including former MLA and senior BPF (Bodoland People's Front) leader Hitesh Basumatary, were arrested by police in Baksa district after a search operation at Basumatary's residential complex resulted in the recovery of a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition. Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district.
