Rebels, army man dead in gunfight

Four unidentified rebels and an army major died during a fierce fighting between security forces and a joint team of ULFS-I and NSCN-K in Nagaland on Wednesday. The gun battle that lasted for nearly ten hours took place at a remote Naga village of Oting in Mon district.

Acting on a tip off, army jawans of 12 Para Commandos conducted a search operating at the hilltop where the fierce fighting broke out from Tuesday evening. Four rebels were found dead along with an army major.

Three army jawans also sustained serious injury during the encounter who have been fighting with death at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

Army, police and para military ate fanning out in the entire area in search of the rebels who are believed to have been hiding in the hill tops.

Identified as Major David Manlum, who died in the spot has been flown to his home state Meghalaya for last rites.
