World Environment Day programs by Green Guard

Green Guard Nature Organization organized multiple events centered around the theme of 'Connecting People with Nature' at various locations to celebrate World Environment Day 2017. At Loongsoong, Nagaon, a 'March For Nature' was organized under the stewardship of Sanctuary Wildlife Service Award winner Dulu Bora. Students and teachers of Loongsoong Shamgaon ME School, Shamgaon LP School and the Bridge of Hope School marched through the streets to demand an end to illegal poaching and logging activities in the area, which is close to the Swang R.F. and the Kaziranga- Karbi Anglong Elephant Reserve.

A Tezpur, Green Guard Nature Organization collaborated with Tezpur Bikers and Tezpur Zubeenians to organize tree plantation, nature walk, art and poetry recital at Tezpur Collegiate School, Silver Jubilee School, Porbotiya High School, Besseria High School and Sonitpur Jatiya Vidyalaya. 

At Morigaon, Green Guard Nature Organization, in association with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Assam, organized an World Environment Day awareness program at Charon Beel, Morigaon, for members of the ongoing Adventure Training Camp under Everester Tarun Saikia. Green Guard Secretary General delivered an audio-visual presentation on environmental challenges of our times. Tarun Saikia, who was one of the two men from Assam to first summit the world's highest peak, also spoke about the impact of global warming on Himalayan glaciers. The Water Pledge was also administered to the trainees. Several saplings were planted along the road and and on the banks of the Charon Beel.

At Phulaguri, Nagaon, Green Guard Nature Organization Gen Sec was the resource person at the awareness program organized by the Nagaon Regional Office of the Pollution Control Board, Assam at the Salmara High School, Nagaon.

About 600 Amur Falcons have been spotted at the Borigaon, Borbori and Nellie areas of Morigaon district during the last few days. The birds have been noticed roosting on power transmission lines or flying overhead. Local villagers are blissfully unaware of the presence of these long distant migrants amidst them. A 13 feet King Cobra was rescued by Dulu Bora of Green Guard Nature Organization near 17 no. line quarters of Lungsung Tea Estate, Karbi foothills, near Chapanala, Nagaon, on Saturday. It was later released back to the wild in the presence of forest offiials in less than a mile from its place of rescue. A project, 'Community Elephant Fodder Plantation' to plant banana plants in the Karbi foothills was launched by Green Guard Nature Organization today with local villagers in areas of intense human-elephant conflict, on the last day of the 'Bon Mahotsav' week. Two nature conservation NGOs of Assam, Aaranyak and Green Guard Nature Organization (IBCN partners) collaborated to organize 'street plays' at several places in the towns of Morigaon and Nagaon to promote conservation awareness of the Globally Threatened Greater Adjutant Stork (GAS) on 26th of May.
