“The Mech-Kachari community has been suffering in identity crisis and afraid of losing their original culture, heritage and identity due to the rapid change of the socio-economic scenario of the state”. This reflected at a conference organized by Sivasagar District unit of Mech-Kachari Jatiya Parishad at Nazira.
The Mech-Kachari Jatiya Parishad Asom has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on July 14, where they included their demands of Autonomous Council, setting up of a Separate Mech-Kachari Battalion & full-fledged status of schedule tribes etc.

Mech-Kacharis are also found in large numbers in Mechi Anchal (District) in Nepal and they are Gorkhas as far as Nepal is concerned. They are called Meche as their dwelling place is alongside the Mechi River.Their customs are similar to the Bodo-Kacharis.

Promud Mech is the person who formed the mech tribes to demand for autonomous council in Assam. He is former president of Mech Kachari Jatiya Parishad.

Mech Brothers Had lost whatever they have.Their language culture and identity. they speakes assamese language, they put assamese clothes, and their faith an assamese vaishnaism etc. so they sify should rectify themselves and give space to other kacharies people to embraced them without hesitating.

Automonous council will certainly fulfil some aspirations of the Mech Kachari community.But a political system should not be the ultimate goal of an ethnic community. Because only financial grant from govt cannot help survive a community. we should not confine our hopes and aspirations to a particular system. Our aim should be far beyond a system where we can live with dignity and prosperity and without fear of losing identity.
A pall of gloom descended in Nazira when Jadavananda Baruah passed away on Wednesday. He was 90. The social worker and former Nazira Town Committee chairman breathed his last at his own residence in Guwahati in the morning. The recovery of a leopard carcass sends no less shock among the wild life activist lovers in Sivasagar on Wednesday.The carcass of the 5 feet long full grown leopard was spotted by the local villagers on the river Dikhow at Sunpura in the morning.Acting on information, forest department officials arrived in the river bank and recovered the carcass. Nazira police have booked a78 year old person for allegedly molesting a minor girl who happens to be his grand daughter. Hundreds of activists from the Brihottar Asomiya Youva Mancha in Nazira burnt the effigy of Union home minister Rajnath Singh alleging his failure to curb the incidents of racial attacks on the north east students in other parts of the country.
