AGP dead opposed to big dams

AGP makes it plain and simple that the party will never support big dam to be an agent of disaster in the future. This was waht party president Atul Bora said.

In an exclusive interview with Assam Times at Nazira ONGC Guest House on Saturday, Bora said they are dead opposed to big dams in the name of hydel power generation. “Big dams are not viable for states like Assam. We would oppose it tooth and nail. It will not serve the purpose of Assam and its peope,” said Bora.

Taking a dig at BJP, Bora said that the ruling party at the Centre has betrayed people by its U turn on the serious issue. “Before the Lok Sabha polls they opposed the dams and tried to woo the worried people. But now the same BJP is supporting the big dam lobby and has been trying to allow NHPC to build dams. We condemn it,” the AGP president observed.

He further maintained that Union power minister Piyush Goel has insulted the people on the dam issue while he invited as many as 28 anti dam organizations for talks in New Delhi. “That’s why, we on Saturday burnt Goel’s effigy across the state,” said Bora who is leading a delegation to revive the party at the grassroot level.
