Quiz marks World Environment day in Nagaon
With an aim to create awareness among the students about the environmental related problems like pollution and also to educate them to make optimum use of the natural resources, a district level inter-school quiz competition was held under the aegis of Xatirtha, a socio-cultural organisation on Monday at Nowgong Girls' College to mark the 'world Environment day'.
The Quiz was started at around 10 a.m and was conducted by Quizmaster Nayanjyoti borah of Nagaon Quiz Forum.
The team of Mayuresh Sharma and Partha pratim Sharma of Kuwarital Sishu Bidyapith,Kaliabor did their school proud by winning the quiz.The team of Dhrityraj borah and Samiran borah of Sankardev Vidya niketan,Rupahi clinched the second position while Hrishikesh Duwara and Sibranjan Baruah of Rmanujan Secondary School begged the third position.
Earlier,preliminary written tests were held at different schools of the Nagaon district where over 1400 participants took part and among them total 90 teams were selected for the Final Quiz on Monday.
The three winning teams were awarded with Certificate of participation,books hamper,Cash along with a plant to each member.

A rare species of tortoise has been saved after being found trying to cross over the Dhing-Nagaon connecting road adjacent to Batadrava police station on Thursday night.The approximate weight of the tortoise is 6 kg.It was collected by a man namly Rajib baruah on the road,luckyly there was no vehicle passing at that time. Rajib Baruah is officer in charge of Batadrava police station. The rescued tortoise later was released in fresh water of Akakhi ganga,the waterbody located inside the Batadrava than.
Four young greater adjutant storks, a highly endangered stork species,were found at Chakalaghat in the Nagaon district on Wednesday. Some locals spotted the young adjutant storks close land adjacent to Barbhety Simolutol PWD road and rescued them with providing initial care. The storks were later handed over to Forest officials of Nagaon. It may be mentioned here that Near to chalaghat their was a tall tree where Some greater adjutant storks had nested in. A nine year old boy met watery grave at a pond at a remote hamlet in Nagaon district casting a pall of gloom in the entire area on Saturday. Identified as Rana Bordoloi is alleged to have killed his wife Sabitri by setting her on fire at their home in Palengtoli,Barkola in the afternoon. One person died and four others sustained grave injury after the vehicle in which they were travelling turned turtle on the road after it rammed into the divider in Nagaon on Tuesday. The bizarre road mishap took place at Nonoi Arjuntol on thr National Highway No 37 in the morning. The injured have been battling for life at the civil hospital. Identified as Abdul Kadir, he died on the spot. Eye witnesses, mostly, have blamed rash driving for thr tragic road mishap.
