Girls outshine boys in Manipur matric
Once again girls outshone boys in Manipur in the HSLC examination the result of which was declared on Saturday.
Priyanka Moirangthem of Nirmalabas High School, Imphal secured the first position, Thounaojam Joylity bagged the second position and Laishram Librada Singh got the third position in the Class 10 exam.
Last year, the top three positions were secured by girls from Nirmalabas and Little Flower Schools respectively with letter marks on all subjects in the High School Leaving School Certificate examination conducted by Board of Secondary School Manipur (BSEM).
The pass percentage was pegged at 66.70, which showed a tad higher than last year’s 61.50 per cent. A total of 34, 8299 students appeared for the Class 10 exam 2017.
Education Minister Th Radheshyam released the result in the afternoon at the BSEM office, Babupara.
Declaring the BSE Class 10 result, the minister stated, “The main objective of the government is to produce good quality students.”
He expressed happiness at this year’s result which was fairly good.
Thoubal and Kakching districts have the highest pass percentage at 79.82 followed by Tamenglong and Noney districts at 73.08.
A total of 25, 500 students from different private schools took the examination while a total of 7, 559 students from government schools and 785 from government aided schools appeared it.

The Manipur government finally decided to start the first session of the yet to be constructed National Sports University (NSU). Three illicit drug and arms smugglers who were also involved in hijacking of vehicles were arrested by police and seized weapons, including one Chinese hand grenade, from their possession. A 24-year-old youth reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside a hotel room at Babupara on Wednesday. Reports said Konsam Chandrakriti, son of late K Chandrakanta Singh of Ramnagar Tuko of Silchar within Assam’s Cachar district, was found dead inside Hotel Star this morning. He hanged himself with a khudei (clothe) inside his hotel room. Some employees of the hotel informed the police after he did not give any response when they called him from outside the room. The door of the room was found closed from inside. A team of Jiri police arrived there and broke the door open when he was found hanging from the ceiling. In a suspected case of human trafficking, three young girls from Manipur, who were taken to Karnataka on pretext of providing jobs, were rescued at Shimoga district of Karnataka. The trio were rescued during a joint operation carried out by Karnataka police, Imphal West police and Women Helpline ‘181,’ as per a report. It said the girls will be handed over to their parents with the help of the Social Welfare Department. Women in distress have been appealed to use any time the toll free telephone number 181 of Women Helpline ‘181’ for help. One suspected swine flu (H1N1) death has been reported at a private hospital here on Monday. The patient, hailing from Imphal East, suffered from symptoms similar to that of pandemic swine flu, officials said. The patient died at Rajmedicity, North AOC around 9 am. The suspected deadly swine flu patient admitted to the hospital on July 21. A family is mourning after an 18-year-old girl was shot to death allegedly by her “boyfriend” at Moreh town bordering Myanmar early on Sunday. A 3.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Manipur on Sunday triggering the fear of the 2015 like one which caused huge damage to the northeastern state. The earthquake, which originated in Ukhrul district struck the state at around 1.36 AM forced many people to wake up and the panic stricken people in the high rise buildings started coming down to the open space. There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.
