The Union cabinet on Wednesday cleared the proposal to set up the proposed AIIMS in the outskirt of Guwahati triggering huge protest in Raha where the local residents are staging road blockade on the National Highway No 37.
Presided over by prime minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet meeting approved the Rs 1132 crore project under the Pradhan Mantrir Swasthya Yojana to be set up in North Guwahati revenue circle.
The cabinet meeting approved the proposal hours after the National Green Tribunal deferred till July 25, the judgment of the plea against the move to set up the country's premier hospital in Changsari, a green belt where construction is strictly prohibited.
