Bangalore based kidney transplant specialist Dr Sankaran Sundar graced the Saturday evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on 13 May and offered free health consultations to over 20 participants. The senior consultant Nephrologist and head of international kidney transplantation program of Manipal Hospitals Bangalore advised few of them to take further courses of treatment. The participants also got their blood pressure checked by Rahul Sarma from the hospital.

The next Saturday clinic, organized under the series of 'Evening with a Doctor' programs on 20 May, will be attended by Dr Dhrubajyoti Dutta from Down Town Hospitals. Open for the member-journalists of the press club along with their dependents, the camp will begin at 4 pm and continue till 6 pm. The 27 May camp will be conducted by Dr Ashwin Rajagopal, senior consultant on Surgical Oncology from the Manipal Hospitals.

Brisk preparations to celebrate I Day

Defying rebel diktat, Assam is gearing up to celebrate the Independence Day with a massive security arrangement on Tuesday.  Police and para military forces are fanning in the nook and corner of the north eastern state where ULFA(I) and NDFB-S along with other north eastern rebel outfits announced general strike asking the people to boycott the celebration.  The capital city of Guwahati is being fortified with  security forces stepping up checking and patrolling. Flood scene grim: Toll 10

Assam flood scene turns worse on Saturday claiming ten live during the last 24 hours. After a brief respite the Brahmaputra and it's tributeries are overflowing to sumberge at least 15 district.  According to government, Kokrajhar alone has lost six people during since Thursday. Two people have been washed in Dhemaji and one each in Marigaon and and Lakhimpur.  The worst hit district this time is Majuli where surging waters believed to washed away a huge part of am embankment displacing many people.  Flood waters have been working no less havoc in Kaziranga where the animals are shifting to highland to get rid of this perennial problem.

GPC evening clinic concluded

The weekly evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday (12 August 2017) was conducted by the city based physiotherapist Dr Kangkan Talukdar. Organized with supports from Indian Association of Physiotherapists and All Assam Physiotherapy Association, the camp witnessed the participation of around 25 media persons. They were offered free consultations in the camp, where health workers Anamika Sahu and Rohit Sharma extended assistances. The participants also got their blood pressure checked in the camp.

JFA demands proper investigation into scribe’s murder

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expresses concern over the killing of another journalist to increase the tally of victims up to five in the last seven months of 2017 in India. The forum demands a proper probe into the incident relating to the murder of television journalist Surender Singh Rana on 29 July in Haryana. The local media reports revealed that Rana, who was associated with the Jammu-based news channel JK 24x7 News, was shot dead at Gurugram locality in broad daylight by four persons after an aggravated arguments. SIMS doctor to conduct media OPD clinic

Dr Vijay Sankaran (neurosurgeon) from SIMS Chennai Hospital will attend tomorrow’s (5 August) evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club. The camp will begin at 2.30 pm and conclude by 4.30 pm. Moderate quake shakes Manipur

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Manipur on Thursday morning striking panic button for many people who feared the rerun of the 2015 massive jolt. The earthquake, which originated in Churachandpur district struck the state in the mudnught forced many people to wake up and the panic stricken people in the high rise buildings started coming down to the open space. There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.
