Hailstorm lashes Raha

A severe hailstorm lashed greater Raha and its adjacent areas of Nagaon district on Friday morning causing widespread damage by uprooting many mature trees,snapping power lines at many places.Many houses were also damaged in Amsoi,Gaspara,Balikuchi, Beltola,Salmara and Nakuchi by the hailstorm. Hailstones as large as tennis balls were reported, denting vehicle roofs and making people run helter-skelter for cover. Lasting for about an-hour, the hailstorm also caused damage to crop fields of the said areas. Fortunately,no loss of life has been reported.

Injured leopard cat rescued in Dolonghat

Sensation prevailed in Itakhulighat village of Dolonghat, near to Jajori, Nagaon on Tuesday evening following the rescue of an injured leopard cat by the villagers. A group of villagers spotted the male leopard lying injured in the backyard of Noor Islam's house, a resident of Itakhulighat Village and immediately admitted it to a nearest Veterinary Sub centre for treatment. The leopard Cat has severe injuries on his neck. The forest personnel from Morigaon has taken over the the animal and providing necessary treatment. The leopard cat was later sent to Morigaon and to sent to Guwahati zoo.

Nagaon police bow down to mass pressure

The arrest of a person in connection with a kidnapping case triggers no less protest in Nagaon on Monday forcing the authorities to release him after thousands of people in Eleven Mile area hit the streets demanding unconditional release of the people whom they called innocent. Local residents in large number blocked the National Highway No 36 at Eleven mile for a few hours disrupting surface communication on Monday. According to the protestors, police have arrested Ramjan Ali on flimsy ground who was not at all involved in the incident. They threatened to go to any extent if the police refuse to release Ramjan. Buddha purnima Celebrated in Batadrava

Buddha Purnima was celebrated in Batadrava, the birthplace of saint Srimanta Sankardev with religious fervour and gaiety on Wednesday.The celebration began with Taal kubua,Manjira naam and Aaisokolor Naam followed by Khol prasanga.On the auspicious occasion,thousands of devotees from different parts of the state thronged at Batadrava than and offered prayers. One held with Pistol and fakenotes

Doboka Police seized 99 thousand fakenotes along with a pistol and four bullets from the possession of one Fatir ahmed, son of Ayub Al Ali of Changmaji village of Doboka in Hojai District on Saturday night. Doboka Police Station nabbed the accused on Madartoli near NH 36 while his accomplice managed to escape. Police currently interrogating the accused.

Illegal liquor seized

Rupahihaat Police conducted an operation against illegal liquor sellers of the Rupahihaat Bazar and Bhakatgaon area under Rupahihaat Police station of Nagaon district and seized a total of 150 Indian made foreign liquor bottles, on Saturday night . Two persons namely Biswajit das and Dilip marak were held in this connection. It may be mentioned that illegal sale of Foreign liquors in panshops and grocery shops of Dakhinpat Chariali has been allegedly going on for years but the Nagaon Excise unit as well as Rupahihat police have failed to curb menace of free-flowing liquor.

Boy rushed to hosptal after Snake bite

A boy named Siddique ali is receiving treatment at Nagaon BP civil hospital for a snake bite after he was bitten on the roadside of Gorajan, Rupahihat in Nagaon district on Saturday. As per information, Ali in the morning caught a Cobra from a field near Gorajan. He then took it to Rupahihaat Bazar and started playing with it but unfortunately he was bitten by the snake. He was rushed to Nagaon BP civil hospital by the locals and remained a in Critical condition till the filing of this report.

Shop gutted in Puranigudam

Goods worth around 2 lakh rupees were gutted in fire after a shop at Randaichuk,Puranigudam of Nagaon district got engulfed in devastating fire on Saturday noon. According to sources,The shop caught fire from the earthen lamp of the shop and which soon spread to whole shop. The fire was doused by the locals along with fire brigade team from Amoni in about half-an hour's time.However,No casualty was reported due to the fire.

Women Empowerment Programme held at Dhing College

Dhing College Science Forum in association with UGC GDA organised a day long free health awareness and check-up camp as a part of the Extension Activities Programme here on Thursday.The camp was formally declared  open by Dr. S.
